Hi bought new ibiza yesterday. It's a 1.4 16v 100bhp. Engine management light has come on but car seems to be going fine still. Anyone know what it could be. I thought Mabey a egr valve or something.

If you get this code then it will prob need cleaning. Mine threw this code after a run but never came back on. I mostly do short journeys.

In my experience, it is not the actual EGR valve that is the issue, it will be the port area at the throttle body, where the recycled get fed back into the engine, gets choked with hot oil based gunge.

You need to buy some gaskets and lift the throttle body off with out disconnecting its wiring, and clean out the port where that long bendy pipe goes to - it starts at the EGR valve so probably need to take that end off, plus a support clip halfway along (fixed to thermostat housing) before you can take it off. I have not tried, but maybe if you are careful when lifting the throttle body away, you might get away with just one or two gaskets.

I think I listed all the gaskets needed on a posting on this forum a couple of years ago.

Try "SEARCH" function.

These codes could still end up being caused by a blocked EGR valve pipe blockage at the TB end. If you search using each of these fault codes you will find lots of "stuff" - good luck, though do clean out the port in the TB or the interface plate below it, demanding on age of car.

One other item mentioned has been the MAP sensor, try cleaning it before replacing it, always buy proper VAG parts or you could end up chasing your tail. I replaced mine with a used one, and that changed things a bit, though I did need to clean the EGR valve gas pipe port on the TB. Due to other issues I also had to replace the oil separator as well, I'm sure that I would refit the original MAP sensor as it is a later version of that now fitted.

The MAP sensor is mounted on the end of the inlet manifold, that is the driver's side. It is secured with 2-off small screws and you can reuse the O-ring that is part of the MAP sensor, try washing it with carb cleaner.

The gaskets you can get from a VAG outlet, I think that I provided a general pointer to my posting that has the gasket part numbers for a 75PS BBY engine, also I gave you the adress of VAGCAT to check the parts for your exact model/age of car.
