Engine light on dashboard

Morning all,
this maybe a simple fix, but i'm a little stumped driving home from work a few days ago the orange "oh **** somethings wrong" light came on the dashboard, car was still driving fine, pulling fine etc.
Got home and opened the bonnet, noticed the radiator fan was on, nothing unusual so left it for the night as it was dark, next day started her up and the radiator fan came on straight away although the engine was cold, light still on dashboard. Took the battery off, left it for about an hour, re-connected, all was well, no light and no fan on unfortunately yesterday the same thing happened again so i'm guessing a sensor somewhere is knackered? anyone got any ideas/advice??

Radiator fan switch?
Need vag com on it really.

yea i guessed that was probably the case, dont have it unfortunately, guess i'll just have to put up with the fault light!

You can buy a lead and the freeware version for around £20 off ebay.
It's a must owning one of these cars imho.

I am in Oxfordshire, I have the lead and the freeware, unfortunately i have "vista" on my laptop and it doesnt seem to work with it!
