Alright Folks, first off apologies for repeating what seems to be a regular post but this is really starting to annoy me now. Any input on this would be appreciated.
The Symptoms.
Car drives fine, Starts juddering then cuts out. This has been totally random, for example, I left the village last week and got 4 miles down the road and it cut out, then yesterday I went 50 miles down the A1 at 80mph got to my brothers turned round to come back got 2 miles from his house and it cut out twice in 5 minutes. On the A1 I managed to do a "rolling jump start" , which doesnt inspire confidence at 60mph! but thats the thing it starts up again straight away.
Things I have discounted and why....
Fuel pump relay - new on last week
ECU relay - new on last week
Coil - Fairly new, put on last year, only done 8K
HT leads - all in fairly good nick
Distributor Cap - New
Spark Plugs - all pretty new and correctly gapped
Throttle body, ICV and breather pipes - all cleaned out regularly
Battery - tip top
Fuel filter - new on about 6K ago
Things I think it might be,but need advice on.....
Fuel pump - Do these fail? and if it is why has it just not gone completely?
Distributor - I took this out recently to fit a new O ring, Im very particular and did it by the book, making sure the timing was not interrupted, again if it is this why so intermittent? Surely it would play up all the time? I did notice the hall sensor plastic casing was snapped and the sensor was just hanging loose, all associated wiring is intact, I put it back in place and it is held firm with a stategically placed cable tie.
Injectors/Fuel rail - Possible blockage? Ive chucked some Redex in ,dont know how long this needs to take effect.
I put some new gauges in recently, a volt meter and an oil pressure gauge, I have gone over all the wiring again and rechecked the earths - possible shorting out somewhere?
Crank sensor - Dont know what the hell this is or what it does ive seen it mentioned a few times on similar posts.
And thats all I can think of, I definately think its an electrical fault, but then again im no mechanic, its the randomness of it thats doing my head in. Like one of the other contributors said on his thread, its cr@p having a car that your scared to take out in case it packs in. Any advice no matter how small or trivial will be greatly appreciated, many thanks in advance, and Happy Easter! TF.
