alright,

For some reason my car cuts out at 5000 revs, iv tried to power through it hoping it would just clear through, but no luck. The car sometrimes struggles to pull then clears up every so often when i drive. Is it related?

any one in the same boat or any answers?

thanks

what car, engine etc.
mine revs to 9k no prob.

Its an 8v cupra AGG engine. I took it for a spin the other day and it only revs to 5000 and thats it. you cant push through at all. Its like when you red line your car except its at 5k revs as opossed to 6.5k. Gave the throttle body a good clean but the problem still there.

Any ideas?

I had the same problem with an old car of mine. Turned out to be the HT leads.

Hope you get it sorted

my old cupra did this, never found the problem, but i think it may have been a gear box change, and it was never set up properly so it was unsiquenised and didn't rev to the redline, it used to cut out at 5,200 but i wasn't that bothered, as to be fair the 8 valve starts to loose power anywhere past 5,000 anyway. hope you get it sorted thouigh, if worst comes to worst take it too the stealers, they'll sort it although its money!

You may be right. I was thinking it may have had a new gearbox. If the gearbox has been replaced can you just change the ratio's or would it be easier to get a replacement one?
I have to say though that it does pull nicely through to 5k revs. Definitely feels faster than my 8v cupra. I assume this would be due to the different gear ratios between the boxes?

yeah it can change it a bit, although my new cupra is faster than my old one, but no two are the same. you should be able to get it adjusted and sorted but i think that is the problem. you'll need to take it to a garage to find out though. or just leave it and think of it as being unique! but it is nice getting it round to 6,400rpm, so just get it checked out, see if they can adjust the ratio.

personally i'd fit a new rotor arm and cap and check your ignition system first and the timing too as some of the older similar rotors (bosch) had built in limiters

gear ratios wont alter the cars rev limit only the speed it can reach at its limit

gear ratios can be altered along with diff ratios but you'll need to strip the gearbox to do either

Problem Solved

Hi all,

just thought i would let u all know that iv finally fixed my problem with the rev limit.

It was the timing, it seemed to be out. A new distrbuter had been fitted before i got the car, not a good job. But hey its done now and the car running like a dream....well except for the fact that im having to put my car in 2nd before it goes into 1st.

Think its a prob i can live with! lol
