Engine cut out problems- advice

Ive read on here and previously posted about engine cut out after going through puddles etc....

I had this problem twice got it started after a while etc....

Today going through country lanes, nipping in and out of laybys for oncoming traffic etc, i cant remember hitting any memorable pyuddles, or any that could do damage, but was concentrating on oncoming traffic....lol

So anyways car looses power again same symptoms as before...but instead this time i knew what to do and was prepared.....The old wet start oil spray came out all other elec parts dizzy cap etc....5 mins later driving sweet as a nut....did notice that the engine was rather hotter than normal...anyways got home, checked under the bonet and it was extremly hot....i had only been out total aroun 30 mins....

Now im thinking that possibly the car overheated but the temp gauge was fine. So read the trusty Haynes manual, and it suggests that the cooling system shoulds be drained and cleared through every two years...now im sure this hasnt been done....wondered if this would cause the cut out? it seems easy to completely clean/drain cooling system...is it?? lol anyone had any experience etc.....

Also read that the main culprit for the water cut outs are small cracks on the ignition coil....how much does this part cost?? can fit it myself ...i think, lol

any help ideas suggestions would be great thanks

Right....car done it again this morning

Now its deffinatly not wet went through no puddles......
Will the ignition coil affect the running of a car...or does it just affect the start up of the engine?

Again driving down the road 40mph in 4th......car judders slightly building up....as if i am driving at 10mph in 5th.....so change down through gears...this seems to cure it for a while....then it decided nope not having it and spluttered about.....

So i pulled over into a layby....the engine still running this time though, played about with the throttle cable to see if it was sticking, but seemed ok, wd40'd it up though and revd the car a bit, and at low revs car seemed to judder a bit.... so went to pull away and lost all power....

So bonet up, wet start spray on all elec points and bingo it started again..... drove home, didnt seem all that smotth but made it the 4 mile trip....

Again as yesterday the engine seems hot for a 10 minute journey...maybe the coolant system isnt working properly??? Going to drain that through today....could this be the cause???

Or could it be the ignition coil???? heard alot about this being the problem for most people, although usually involved water....which mine did from time to time...

PLEASE HELP

just changed the ignition coil.....improved slightly....but when i move into 4th gear it splutters, so staying in 3rd for the moment....lol

Anyways going to fit ht leads dizzy cap and spark plugs within the next few hours as well as flushing the cooling system...

Bloke in the parts place reckons its best to change the whole lot...lol

So doing that hopefully see some improvement

Keep you all posted

Here goes

Changed the HT leads, Dizzy cap rotary arm spark plugs...and the ignition coil, seems improved to me took it to a local rude boy spot and took it up and down on the stretches crawling along in 4th to see if that would splutter again...but going 10mph in 4th was no problem...obviously accelerating off was a tad slow but normal to be like that in 4th....anyways,....

There seems to be a slight dip in power that i have felt if i am crusing at a certain speed...i.e 30mph at 2000rpm 3rd.......40 mph 2000rpm 4th

but usually this goes...... driven it about alot today getting parts etc, and hasnt stalled or broken down yet

Can anyone think of reasons for it to dip slightly...maybe parts still bedding in??

Cheers

Update time people

Drove about last night and this morning for a bit....drove sweet as a nut...touch wood....lol so im hoping this is it....Bought a fuel filter anyway for the sake of £5 and the fact i have no idea when it was last changed etc, so might as well get that done

Going to clean the throttle body as well today...its funny how you never intend to do so much work to your car and it sort of just happens...lol
