Fail :-(

Had it's MOT this morning and was a big fat FAIL!
Biggest thing it failed on was emissions (what a surprise!), instead of being under the limit of 0.30 it was 4.1 which apparently is a ridiculous amount!
Also failed on rear brakes sticking and advisory for front pads wearing thin.

Taken it to local VAG specialist and they're worried that I may have to scrap it. Leaving it with them on Wednesday so they can run 'live tests' and see what's up. But if it's a wiring fault, or something that doesn't show up on their comps, then they said the labor costs involved it would be pointless and would be better if scraped car!

A very very sad day for my little car

Cheers dannaz, lol, hopefully fingers crossed they can get it sorted for not too much money, if they can fix it, then i'm likely to just get it passed through MOT, then sell it asap. Scraping it is a complete last resort, I just have to wait and see which is the best option financially!
I really should have sold it last year when it was having similar problems. But I just love it so much! Is really frustrating as the rest of car is perfect!!!!!!
Will have to keep my out in the old classifieds for either another mk3 ibiza, or a toledo I think, dunno why but I really like the shape of the tollys! And definitley make sure it's got no problems with emissions!

What was the emissions figure that it failed on? Lambda, CO etc?

What were all those numbers? and ranges for pass/fail

I don't have the sheet with all the numbers on at the minute as the garage that are going to try and fix it on Wednesday have taken it to examine it so they can get clear idea of what could be wrong.

All I can remember form sheet is that CO level should be 0.3 and was 4.1 or something like that. And it was just over on the Lambda. Garage say they have funny feeling it may be the ECU that's playing up which could have damaged pretty much every sensor, and if that's the case then I've been told it'll be better off scraping than paying and I quote "£500 if your lucky, but most likely to be a lot more because of the amount of labor hours that will go into doing it".

On Wednesday I'll find out exact figures etc, and find out the future of my beloved little car! :(

The Ecu is very unlikely to go dodgy and destroy sensors. Your just getting too much fuel in, which could be caused by a few things such as, dodgy map sensor, dodgy engine temp sensor, Dodgy injectors, dodgy fuel pump/pressure regulator or finally dodgy ecu. On your particular engine.

It's passed!!!!! Just!!!!

Just had MOT today, on the day it expired and it passed! :D
Only just though!

Max limit of CO you're allowed is 0.3 and mine was 0.298. Although atleast it's better than before when i got 4!!!! :banned:

The problem was a crack in the manifold.... this then turned out that the manifold pretty much disintegrated when they took it off to inspect it! So I think that was quite a major part of it. So had a new one on and I now have a lovely 12months of motoring ahead of me once again!

Oh, and to every other 1.4 owner out there who's engine sounds like a diesel, see if there's something up with the manifold. Because mine like most peoples used to sound like a diesel, but now it actually sounds like a petrol engine is under the bonnet since having new manifold on!!!!! :funk:

Good to hear it passed!

Mine just about passed on Wednesday!

Brakes are a bit borderline. The maximum imbalance you can have is 30% and mine is 29%

But at least it passed, not too bothered about it to be honest cos I'm very tempted to sell it now anyway! Just fancy something newer with a bit more power

Cheers. Is such a relief that all that money (£330!!!!) to fix it actually made it pass!

But i'm in two minds too markmeus if i should sell it or just keep on running it till it actually dies completely. Is such a great car, but I do a lot of motorway miles and it struggles so much! But, is really nippy in town... I know nothing to brag about, but the 0 - 30 I think is pretty dam fast compared to a lot of other slightly higher powered cars I've driven! lol!!!
