The broken wire that I (and others) encountered is at a connector block on the front edge of the gearbox. You really need to get underneath and look upwards to see it.

The most obvious symptom I saw was that my fault light always illuminated exactly after startup.

If your power steering is inoperative on startup I'd suggest the fault is elsewhere, although it couldn't hurt to check for this wire. I think there are other known problems with power steering failing in freezing weather, something problem with wiring at the PS pump connector. Have a search...

Battery seems to be fine, starts on the button every time. Touches wood!

Im well aware of the power steering problems as I had it last winter, something do do with wiring as you say.

I have had the battery light flicker after start up and a dab of the throttle stops this but the past few days there has been no light at all. Should my engine management light be coming on then? (if it were not on all the time....EGR)

Shall get under the car come the weekend and have a nose.

Cheers

Just to let you all know, mine is now sorted. T'was the dreaded broken wire! Now replaced with a longer wire so it does not happen again :)

Cheers
