Electric Windows....

... as usual fix one problem with a cupra and another ****er rears it head! Stupid cars.

My passenger window appears to have packed up, the drivers passenger window switch doesnt work, neither the passenger window switch. Drivers window is fine.

But.... in typical seat style, both windows work by turning the key in the door lock.

Any ideas, are the window switches fused on independent circuits with regards to the door switches? Is the door lock method fed from another power source?

Water in teh switch mate, that was my very first cupra problem. The point at which water drips into the car is perfectly in line with the switch  anyone would swear seat deisgned the car todo it.

Did you sort out the problem of the electric window switch?

My passenger electric window works fine from the passenger side switch, but my drivers side switch only controls the window back up. Also the drivers side switch only controls the drivers side window when it wants.

It often means i just have to sit there messing with and pressing the drivers side window switch repeatedly until it finally comes to life.

Any ideas? Just in the middle of my search now...

Currently having the same problem also. really getting on my nerves i thought it may just be down to a bad earth as its intermittant. But the water quote make sense also as it rained crazy up here!

Sorry for dragging this up...

My electric window problem is now really beginning to annoy me, and it caused quite an embarassing moment today!!

Both my electric windows are fully functional when putting key in the door lock and doing them up/down.

My passenger window is fine when controlled from the passenger switch.

But my drivers switches are useless. The drivers side window switch has a mind of its own; sometimes it takes me ages to get it working if i continuosly press it, then t might work fine for a while then it just suddenly stops working again. Then the window might come down by itself a short while after failing to open it the 1st time.

I can only control the passenger window on the upwards movement from the drivers side.

Today i removed all the plastic fascia, and i opened up the switches; The switches themselves look fine, i cleaned the contacts and even sprayed WD40 in, but still don't work.

I'm convinced its related to the switches, as the windows work fine when i put the key in the door lock.

Any body gt an idea on proce for the switch? They can't be that expensive...there's nothing to them.

Any suggestions/ideas appreciated!

Sorry its long winded!

Remove the switch and clean up all the contact and the switch mech itself. I have to remove mine now and again to do this.

I just tend to pull the switch out and blow in it a few times. I know when i need to do it coz i have to press the switch pretty hard to work the windows.

is it not the wires that run to the regulator/motor? heard of these being a cause for some electric window probs..

PhilW - i took the switch completely apart last night. There's absolutly nothing to it, its just a plastic surround with 2 metal contacts inside, i cleaned it all up but still no better.

I'm now thinking it must be the wiring (mentioned above) - as i know one switch definately works, when i swap them over it still don't work, so i need to remove the door card and have a mess with the wiring.

Im convinced it's not the window motor, as it works fine with the key in the keyhole.

I'd order new parts, but im not sure which part is causing this hassle.

try swapping the switches plug the passenger switch on the drivers side and see if that makes a difference there is so many wires going to the regulator doing the same thing there is a few things i would try to do to eliminate some things like unplugging the drivers regulator see if the passenger side works then try the opposite might narrow some things down

one of my switches stopped working a few weeks ago and I managed to take the switch apart, clean the inside (was filled with crud) and re-glue it together. It worked for a couple of days but the crappy glue I had wasn't upto the job so I bought a new switch from the dealers for £14 I think. I posted the part number in the part thread...

Cheers lads,ill have a look!

£14 for that switch is a rip off!!!
Its just a plastic box 15mm by 8mm with 2 thin metal cotacts inside! Guess its needed though.

I'll try swapping them around first...

Can't find my problem using search, SO instead of making a new thread, thought I would start up an old one! :p

So the electric windows on my car, I put them down, and then couldn't get them back up. Now got them back up eventually with alot of playing, but tried again to go down (fine) then back up (not fine, didn't work).

So tried locking the car and holding, didn't budge the windows... But then played around again and went up eventually.

So can anyone think what my problem is here??

If I here the word regulator I will cry btw...
