Hi

I am trying to work out the cost per mile to run my Leon (easy bit) and I want to find out what petrol mpg equates to the same cost per mile (this is where my brain is having a crisis)

So here is my calculation :-
Mpg / 4.546 (miles per litre)
Price per litre / miles per litre (price per mile)

Can I do a reverse style calc to get to mpg of a petrol based equivalent ?

Mate the easiest way to do it is join www.fuelly.com then all you need to do is:

- record the mileage on your odometer each time you fill up
- how much you fill up by (litres)
- the price per litre

If you click on the banner in my signature it will take you to my fuelly profile, it tells you how many miles tracked, my TRUE mpg (rather than what the car thinks i've done) and how much it costs per mile to run.
It does it all for you and stores it in one place so far better than working it out yourself. If you have previous data then input that all in, its dead easy to use :)

Just read it properly! ;)

Price for a gallon of fuel = MPG
Cost per mile

Price for a gallon of petrol = £1.309 x 4.546 litres

So you get:

____5.95_____= MPG
Cost per mile in £

That will give you your petrol MPG needed for the same cost per mile that your diesel costs you to run :)

I actually sat there for a good 10 minutes last night to make that equation haha. I worked out that if a diesel going 55mpg costing £1.399 a litre, for the same cost per mile for petrol, the car must be doing 51mpg! So I guess my way works, just no where near as advanced :')

ha ha, I spend over £3000 a year on fuel ...... still i'd rather do that than drive a diesel :)

I know what you mean...

In my old Carisma I used to love driving my old mans car (Audi A3 S-Line 1.9 TDi 140) But now I find that even though his car is a 61 plate and mines a 57, mine has much better everything to do with performance... I didn't think there would be much difference between my Leon and his Audi but I was surprised...
