That's quite good actually as id never expect them to make the full figures, have a dtuk on mine and it's been 100% highly recommend.

Meppershall Beds.
DTUK were unable to tell me what makes their tuning boxes any better than a £20 one off eBay. Just 'you get what you pay for' with no technical explanation at all.

Make of that what you will...

would you seriously get one off eBay for £20 and instal it?
I've been ripped off with light bulbs for crissake - no way I'd put anything electromechanical in the car.
Mats - yes.
Tuning box? not in a million years....

I have a DTUK box (DTUK CRD2+), which I'm looking to get rid off as I've just picked up my new car (Merc A220d)!

Looking for £250 if anyone is interested

IMO, I would say that the article linked to by #26 is a outdated - since 2007 a lot has happened to the use of external boxes in every aspect, at least that goes for the more expensive once and not just some crap of ebay.

It might in principle be the same, input signal -> box alteration -> output signal, but comparing a potentiometer with today's sophisticated boxes controlled by microprocessors and with several channels like rail, boost, cam, is not a fair comparison.

Nope, I was never going to purchase one. I was just interested what made their £350 boxes better than £20 boxes. As expected, they couldn't tell me.

I'd never fit a tuning box to any vehicle I own.

No offense but, so far all you've said in this thread is loose statements against the use of DTUK boxes or other tuning boxes, and not actually provided any detailed information why not to (or why you choose not to) use one.

What makes the them such a no no for you? What are the risks? What are plus? What makes a proper remap which probably costs twice as much, better/worse?

I'd honestly like to know some facts on both sides of the fence of both these boxes against each other + a remap, rather than just vague opinions :). In my case, for Petrol 180PS Leon FR.

And also this is a thread about 2 boxes against each other. Not a thread about a tuning box or no tuning box. If you're a person that wouldn't use a box then why even bother commenting on the thread. It's not helping the op's decision on which one.

I'd like to know options between a map and the two boxes stated here, not whether or not to get either one, so felt no point starting a new thread. I am seeing lots of vague opinions at the moment but no solid pros and cons for either so far.

Yes, it's a valid point, but it's still good to hear other people's opinions on these things as long as it's at least in some part relevant to the op's topic, otherwise we might as well go join the sleeping sheep on the golf forum ;):)

I have been running with a CRD3+ since late feb 2016 and done ~16.000km (mainly on 2+2) in my DSG 150tdi, and I have found nothing but joy using the DTUK box. Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to put it on a dyno, but I can tell you, that I would never drive without the box mounted, the difference between stock and this is quite huge. So far it has worked flawlessly in all regards, much smoother ride than standard, excellent pulling, no juddering, no soot, same mpg as standard - so a lot of enjoyment and smiles on my face.

The other week I had a chance to try a stock Leon 184tdi DSG - I wouldn't say it was dull, but it just didn't feel as alive when pulling away compared to my own car, so there's definitely a difference you easily get used to. In this case when comparing my 150tdi with stock 184tdi - I think it comes down to a matter of difference in torque and when it kicks in.

I am, as stated, now driving a DSG, previous I was driving a manual leon 150tdi with the former dtuk CRDT 2 channel box - and there I had some issues with judder from low rew in some situations, but as stated above, this has never happened in my current setup.
