Another vote for genuine fluids. I have popped into Leeds TPS before and got stuff no problems, they'll be amongst the cheapest.

what is this dsg? and which engines have it?

DSG is a semi-automatic gearbox.

Thanks, its a 6 speed 2005.
Not so keen on the GSF/febi/bilstein option. Although i doubt I will keep if for another 30k so I guess not so important.

You might just want to ask at Leeds VW for a price for a DSG service. Generally it's a lot less hassle having them doing it as the savings by DIY are generally less than £50. You might be surprised at how much (or little) it costs.

Oil and filter can come in at anywhere up to £120 and my mate had his done there for about £170. Not worth even getting dirty for that amount. Plus it's a fairly complex procedure which requires VCDS to perform.

I have done it before, can't say I found it difficult other than the time tken to fill (from top) due to cold oil. so have the adapter etc and had vagcom for ages. filter/washer/seal kit about £13. 5lit of oil at £13 so about £90 tops.
Will try my local skoda dealr as nearer and customer orientated ;)

Leeds VW has a new service manager. Of the 200 odd VW dealerships in the country who are under the same scheme they were sitting at about 165 for customer satisfaction. He's been there for 3 months now and they're up to 96th already. The last place he was at (Knaresborough) was at number 6....

dont want to to open a can of worms here but my local Vw stealer wont touch Seats as the parts are different ! & they say that seat may not honour the warranty if they mess it up, but my local indie gets all his parts from them ! for any seat skoda etc& again would not do the oil change

i went to a seat dealership ( having first checked the customer satisfaction on seats site ) for the oil change cost me £170 all in & it was the only time in my life that the service manager walked me out to the car to check all was ok !

Well that shows some dealers ignorance - the parts are identical for VW/Audi/Skoda and Seat.
At 9 years old warranty isn't an issue....
And under EU law it isn't either, as long as parts are genuine warranty is still valid if the garage is vat registered.

parts dont have to be genuine but of a quality
and you dont have to be vat registered
when i set up my business i checked this all out with VW/Audi
they said the repairs must be done to manufacturers standard and the parts must be of a acceptable quality not nessacery to be genuine
i allways use Mann/purolux and genuine parts anyway and if the car is in warranty genuine only so there is no comeback
