Wonder if you guys can help my dad has a Leon fr 2.0 t petrol the gears seem to act strange every now and the and wont change up till very high in the revs on automatic. It's not the style of driving differently its just got a mind of its own. Is this normal?

i would run a scan on the gearbox with vagcom
there have been several software updates on the dsg gearbox and it may need one doing
also has it had a oil change?

Got this from a Golf Forum...

This is for the guys with a DSG that is clunky, hesitating, or not behaving itself. Of course, if you're under warranty and want a free DSG flush and whatnot, take it to the dealer.

Non vagcom method(not sure how well this one works because I have vagcom and use that method) but some say it does work. Well, it sure won't make it worse.

1. Turn the ignition on, but DON'T start the engine.

2. Floor the gas pedal and hold it like that for 20-30 seconds.

3. Turn the ignition OFF, release the gas pedal.

I'm going to just come out and say it..... DSG is doing my head in now.
I love it, but I hate it too.

Since we got the CR170, the DSG has been less "liked" than on the TFSI.

Never in the right gear. Sometimes it just decides it won't go into gear (electronically) until it's well and truly ready for it. Doesn't sound mechanical at all.

When in manual mode and slowing to a crossing, it slips back into 1st, which is really annoying if you just want to keep rolling and go. In D and S, it doesn't switch to 1st at the same speed! But then it's doing 40 in 6th at 1100-1200 rpm.

It's lovely when doing anyhing > 50mph though.

That's definatley not normal. Both my CR170's would rarely go into first unless coming to a complete stop. If in traffic and rolling with the foot off the accelerator it would be in 2nd....

Is that in manual mode though? Because mine's in 2nd at crawling speeds in D and S, like it should be

out there over the edge vw tech
vw did start to have a set up procedure for these were you had to drive for miles till a counter in measure values in odd then even gears got above 21 quite a laborious set up but if still messing around after that mechatronics in gearbox faulty

Slowly but surely Im started to wish I had manual.

I'm about 35% there I think. The DSG still wins at the moment for many reasons, but the p*ss poor mapping is doing my head in. And I'm not going to spend 400 quid getting the boxed mapped. That's money I can spend getting a Revo map :) hehe

After we reset it I had to drive it for 5 minutes in 3 or 5 then 5 mins in 4 or 6. Sounds like mechatronics might be at fault. It will just sit in whatever gear it wants till near the deadline driving carefully sometimes. They want to sell it but don't think anyone will buy it like this
