Got my LC back today from my local garage (not Seat) - she requires;

o/s drive shaft - £143.17
n/s drive shaft - £143.17
o/s wishbone - 41.16
n/s wishbone - £41.16
Labour - £160
Total - £528.66

The fact that I've only had the car a week and now having to spend out just over £500 is really p***ing me off [:@]
Can anyone let me know if this quote is reasonable?

To be honest I can't remember! I was trying to take it all in at the time along with other stuff. I'm also not t hat clued-up with engine stuff so it kind of goes in and then out again!!
The car makes a clunking noise on a turn to the left and right which is why it went in the other day. They advised the other day the front spring needed replacing (it's leaking).
Took the car in yesterday for a full service and to check why the car idles like its hunting for air as it actually conked out on me that morning after starting her up!
This is what they have advised needs doing along with CV joints but that will be part of the driveshaft replacement. But, whilst they had it, the revs were fine!
I don't think the garage will be ripping me off as I have known them for about 5 years and they have worked for me at my company as they also own a removal company!
I have ordered a vag-com cable which should be here by the weekend so at least I can stick that on when the revs play up again.

They could show me but how would I know that what they're showing and telling me is true? Maybe a 2nd opinion.

The warranty company have said as they're not broken its not covered! Wear & Tear!!

CV's & Driveshafts

Hi,
Can anyone tell me if you can replace the CV joints on an LC or do you have to fit them with the driveshaft?
The reason I ask is my local garage have told me I need 2 new driveshafts. They are now telling me the cv joints needed replacing so they thought it only came as a whole (driveshaft). As they are unable to locate 2 driveshafts, a company has told them they don't need to replace the driveshaft and that they can just replace the cv joints.

This is not placing a lot of faith into this garage for me, so some advise would be much appreciated please.....

Went and asked for my car back this morning from the 'dodgy' garage! Took her to another one round the corner which my father-in-law has been using for many years.
They have confirmed 2 new arms and 2 new cv joints NOT driveshafts!!!!!
They also pointed out the throttle housing was covered in gunk and needed cleaning - could this be whats causing me rev problems after she's had a good run.

Anyway, she goes in Friday so I have the weekend to play and enjoy the car at last!
Maybe even get a chance to fit my HIDs and LED sidelights and give her a good clean :)

Well the parts prices are a bit high, you can get front wishbones with bushes from GSF for £30 Inc VAT a side or from vwspares.co.uk for £26 Inc VAT a side for a start.
