Driveshaft problems

Noticed my car was over due an MOT today and i have had a nasty noise coming from the front when i try to wind the coilovers down. Had a quick gander and found the driveshaft gaiter (i think its called that) has split

How much do you think this will cost at a garage?? heres a pic

plus this rubber thing (in red) on the shaft seems to have been rubbing on the inner arch (in blue)

Any coments or sympathy are greatly welcomed

that's because your car is too low. the CV angle is way too steep, and that's why it's worn.

43.50 for the inner LH CV kit from GSF

maybe 2hrs labour?

and you'll need alignment once you raise the car up

cheers for that mate, hopefully i can get it done tomorow.

Its ran on a gmax suspension kit for the past 2 years. When i fitted the coilovers they were wound down then taken strait back up again due to the noise it was creating, now running at the same hight as before (on gmax). The rubber does look perished so was probably due a new one.

Thinking about it your rite in theory it should improve the angle of the shaft

My CV boot has gone exactly the same as yours, and my car runs on standard suspension so I think they just perish over time. I looked at the Haynes Destruction manual and it looks a bit fiddly to do myself needing some special tool I think, but I haven't got a quote from a garage yet.

MoRK - looking on GSF the £42.50 is for the CV joint kit isn't it? Only £9.60 for just the boot kit...

The extra rubber do-nut on the drive shaft is a balancing weight because the LH shaft is shorter than the RH one (or the other way around?!?)

yes, boots are cheaper, but since it's been exposed to the elements for a period of time it's safer to replace now, than when it breaks

Dude at the garage said £35 to £40 for the part and it wont take him long to do, but he wants to set all my geometry up due to the new collies.

Hope nothing else is wrong because iv just been made redundant

my tyres rub off that stupid inner arch too
no other problems have occured and no noises except buffing and scrubbing ONLY when i turn left...

going in tomorrow for new tyres balancing and tracking all being done to improve it, i pray to god i dont need to wind my coilovers up as i love it at the height its at.

Still got the noise when turning hard left, im pretty sure its that balancing weight so i need to have a think about what to do. Theres still lots of thread left on those collies
