Hello I'm once again after some advice my 1.9 tdi needs a new o/s driveshaft seal and on the vag.com it says you have to remove the entire d/s my question is can you not just un do the lower balljoint so when the splined bolts are un done you can just.move the d/s out of the way
Also the size of the spline bit and what type of oil is correct for this box cheers in advance

So, where exactly would this leave the OP, new driveshaft that he does not need/want?

Maybe I've got it wrong, but I think that he is asking about getting the driveshaft out so that he can replace the oil seal that is in the differential housing.

panic over

I noticed there was oil around the drive shaft the other day when changing the console bushes and didn't investigate any further... As it happens it seems to be engine oil not gearbox oil as it didn't really smell like gearbox oil so it's leaking from further up the block from something else  Probably the rocker cover ? But it is now up for sale and yes it was the oil seal in the diff I suspected ..... Thanks for all your replies peeps
