Dreaded tappet wear

Last week my car has reached the worn tappets stage, now covered 106k and 3 years old. Noticed something wrong when I could hear this tappety noise when engine under load. Rocker cover off and base of cam lobe on number 1 cylinder slightly marked. Apparently a common problem on the pd150 and the rectification is new cam tappets bearings etc and a bill for around £500.
Ps Need a new clutch soon and going to replace the dmf too with a bill for £440
These vw group cars are not all they are cracked up to be eh?
pps fsh history and no expense spared maintenance fron new!

some may say lala land....
thing is, as said, he has a fsh, (not sure if that is a fssh) because if it is and wrong oil was used surely one can make the dealership partly to blame.
not sure if.how one could prove this mind.

Let me add to this aswell
Mate has just done a rebuild on a 300k Octavia taxi after the turbo did some damage. Believe this there is no wear on the bores at all and no wear on the cam lobes. Ok its only 90bhp but come on 300k and no wear. Its pi@@ed me off I can tell you

I think if the wrong oil is used just once the damage may already be done. It will show up a few thousand miles later. If the right oil is used it should last as long as 300k+. At the moment my PD that's heavily modified has 180k. I took of the valve cover to have a look and there is no wear on the cams whatsoever. I bought the car new and i have done all the oil changes myself.

I agree to an extent but what has gone wrong here?
I spoke to aw engineering on monday and I was told they do at least 2 cars a week (pd150) with this problem apparently its a common fault to the pd150. It can start at 30k or 200k my point is I know whats gone in my car over the last 23k but prior to this it was always done at Seat!
Whats in yours 10w40 5w40 or 0w30please tell me micky
ps I am told the pd130 camshaft is a different material to the 150!

All PD's share the same camshafts valves and lifters etc. They are all the same part numbers. It's not the viscosity of the oil that matters it's the spec. It needs to be 505.01, 506.01 or 507.00. Garages make the mistake that " Oh this is a 0w 30w oil so it should do". I have seen this time and time again. When i bought my car the dealer recommended me a totally wrong oil to use!

Micky I know this but what oil do you use?
You can get 10w40 505.01 spec and 5w40 505.01 spec
0w30 is 506.01
I have been using 5w40 505.01
