The covers come off pretty easily - recommended that you get some plastic trim removal tools to avoid scratches. They're just held on by clips so you just need some pressure to pop them off.

Try to avoid pulling at the edges. They are held in the centre of the glass, so if you can get something right behind them and pry, it'll come straight off.
if you have a facelift i found the easiest way for me was to pop the mirror glass out revealing the tabs which means you "unhook" them somewhat to reduce the risk of snapping them.
