Following onfrom a couple of posts i have put in the main electric fan thread, my 2003 LCR went into Amethyst in Cheltenham today for a 40k service and for the fans to be looked at. I have the expected lack of low speed fans when the aircon compressor is running and just short blasts of high speed every now and again.

To cut a long story short, when i went to pick it up, i noticed the reciept sheet showed that a 30k service had been carried out, which was then promptly changed to show 40k. The book has been stamped as 40k. I only have a duplicate history book so i have no way of seeing what should have been done, but what should i expect to see on the reciept? I have read mentions of spark plugs being changed, but i haven't got these on my sheet. Its reads as the usual oil and filter, air filter and i presume pollen filter (i have 2 filters and an element on the list), and thats it. Is that right??

They also have claimed that there is no problem with my fans and they are running as they should, which made me look before i left only to find there was no slow speed fans when the compressor was on! I went straight back in to confront them about it so they sent a mechanic out to look at it with me. I explained what i'd read on here and i was fobbed off with a "the design was changed in the last 2-3 years mate, they should pulse on and off like that. VW got few up of replacing so many fan motors due to them runnign constantly that they changed it so now you only have short blasts. Phasing they call it......basically energy saving....". I take this with a pinch of salt, explaing again what i have read here, and also that i was 99% sure that they USED to run constantly, so he plugged in the diagnostics.....surprise suprise, no fault, so i have no problem. He tells me that if i'm not happy with it, i could change the heater control panel as this controls everything, but by this time i was fed up of waiting so just left with a comment of "we'll see". Sure enough, when i contact a mate with an 05 plate LCR to ask him what his do, we find his run constantly.......

And just to think that i was happy with the service otherwise.......

Sorry about the long post, and i know that most of this has been covered before, but i needed to vent my spleen a bit.[:@]

The Garage is 'fobbing' you off mate.... I had my MK4 VW Golf GTI done under warranty and my Leon Cupra R also done under warranty for the low speed resistor burn out problem on the fan assembly. They replaced the whole fan assembly without question at my main dealers. Get on the phone to SEAT UK and tell them about the garage's bullsh1t excuses and demand the fan assy. is changed. I always find forums are a good source of ammo, print off a load of stuff, take it to the dealers with specific parts highlighted and show them that you know what you're talking about! I get SOOOO wound up when they feed you crap to avoid repairing your car [:@]

Well, suprise suprise, Cheltenham have no knowledge of this problem and stand by their word that my fans are working 100% correctly, any differences between mine and any others, be them newer or older, are no reason to have me believe that mine is in any way faulty. At first the somment came that the Cupra R cooling system is in no way related to any other VW group system so i cannot compare mine to Golf's or S3's, so then when i made the comment that mine is different to a mates R, the reply came...."no comment".

I had the "15 years in VW as enthusiast, parts, workshop and now [some kind of chief i presume as he mentioned HIS technicians] this position, has taught me that the cars across the group differ". Alledgedly, another mates R32 is different as it has no coolant run-on pump like the LCR so the rest of the system works differently......even my 12V VR had a run on pump.....and i've only had 10 years as a VW enthusiast and aboutr the same as an electro-mechanical engineer, so i understand how these things work too!

Anyway, i told him that i will be taking it to another dealer and if the fault is recognised (which i'm certain it will be somewhere!) then i will be contacting both dealership and SEAT UK for a formal complaint.

Anyone have any other idea on the service that was carried out?? Should i have had plugs?

found this quote from awesome on here.....

Well on a full service we normally do:

air filter
oil filter + oil
fuel filter (on the TDi'd - sparks on the petrols)
engine oil flush - dependant on vehicle mileage
sump plug and washer
screen wash
full vehicle inspection checking over everything from suspension, brakes, tyre tread depth, lighting etc
full lubrication service on all hinges and catches
full diagnostics/fault code check

Here's a thought, ring my local main SEAT dealership, (as they changed my fan assembly and DO know of the low speed fan fault) ask to speak to one of the mechanics and tell them your problem and see if they say its normal or not > Then ask them nicely to ring your shite' local dealership and set them straight. They are called HOLLIS MOTORS and their number is (01304) 206710. You've got nothing to lose in just giving them a call mate. Good luck

Cheers for that guys.

Feel a little embarrassed about the service thing now i've bought it up on here, i was jumping the gun a little bit and they have actually changed the plugs....i just didn't look at quantity and so assumed it was a sump plug....My mistake...

As for the fans, after 3 calls to Droitwich Garage and having no return call as promised, i called Listers SEAT in Coventry. When the guys answered the phone i explained my problem and told him that i have proof off the internet that they are one of the dealers that recognise the problem. He then booked it in for next Monday! Fingers crossed!

I have my printed copies of the thread on here as ammo, and i'll be down there like a shot after work.

Listers in coventry fixed my mates car, but didn't notice the problem until the fans burnt out and the car started to overheat. He forgot to mention the problem with the fans when it was serviced the first time. Luckily it's diesel so it didn't get too hot just warmer than normal.

But make it clear you don't want the car washed and leave a note on the dash as they are rubbish at it and melted the wax inside the car and it ran down the outside of the car. Plus allthe dead flies were still on the car.
