I would like to confirm that the Ibiza 1.6 CR TDI does have TCS fitted as standard. I have now had official confirmation from Seat UK.

It must be permanently active. The Seat UK guy said it was a basic function TCS system.

I will test my car out when it next rains to see if there is a dash light.

Been in to my local seat dealer today to book my car in, I have come to know the sales manager very well and asked him about traction controll VW call it ESP but it is the same but better, he told me that its still a £290 extra on a 16tdi sport he said no such thing as a basic T/C. Sorry someone is wrong.

ESP and TCS are completely different things. In the mk4 Ibiza and pre-facelift mk2 Leon it is common to have TCS without ESP.

"The Ibiza SC 1.6 TDI Sport is fitted with a basic function version of the Traction Control System (TCS). This does not include the ESP functionality although this is an option for the Ibiza SC."

This is what I was given from the Seat UK technical department. I think its somewhat more likely that they are correct than a dealership sales manager.

It's not that they don't do traction control, its that traction control is an integral part of the ESP system, but that's not to say they don't/wouldn't fit a car with traction control on it's own.

It's all explained in the owners manual, there's a whole section devoted to TCS - Traction Control System

Well according to the instruction manual for the Ibiza, ESP is made up of traction control EBD and ABS all working together if I remember correctly.

Having said that Volkswagen themselves might just call TC ESP.

I certainly have no traction control light on the dash when the ignition is turned on.

Not to worried about it anyway, my old Ibiza didn't even have ABS, so this one is still safer.

Have just looked in my leons owners manual and YES you could have TCS without ESP it works along side your ABS, however it dose state it can be turned on or off buy pushing the button on the console.
Reasons you my wish to turn off is

WITH COMPECT TEMPORARY SPARE WHEEL
WHEN USING SNOW CHAINS
WHEN DRIVING IN DEEP SNON
WHEN THE VEHICLE IS BOGGED-DOWN, TO FREE IT BY ROCKING

Would think this is the same for a Ibiza I should have looked in the manual in the first place.

Easiest way to find out if you have TCS is to take your car out in the wet and put your foot to the floor in 1st gear. If it wheel spins badly then you don't have it.
