Does quality fuel count, I think so

I now use shell v-power and used to use tesco - mainly for the 5p off offer. Recently I had starting trouble (nothing too severe) but after searching theses forums people recommended shell. I was sceptical at first but now i'm converted, quality fuel counts. No starting trouble and I swear theres more power. Who agrees?
Cheap supermarket fuel keeps you going but at what expense? I bet some of the troubles dealt with on this forum could be better dealt with a decent brand of fuel! What say you!
PS. I do not work for for Shell/BP or whoever!!

Tesco fuel with "5p per litre off" brings their diesel down to round about what Morrisons charge for diesel. Even the local Shell station is cheaper than Tesco. I never buy their fuel anyway, and Morrisons usually goes in my vehicles. No problems for me.

I tried V Power diesel once in the car and noticed a big difference in the weight of my wallet.

I have tried v power and cant see any difference in economy or performance and thats after 10 consecutive tank fulls.
I have always used millers with shell extra but recently stared using sainsburys. I have not noticed any reduction in performance, economy or starting, so I am going to carry on with it!

Have been using Tescos finest for the past 9 months while prices have been high,a dose of Millers every other tankfull. Use a tankfull a week, circa 600miles.Filled up with Shell regular diesel this week 104.6p a litre, what a differnce.Runs far far,far smoother, more kick when the foot goes down,no smoke, starts first time, and to boot 3mpg more.So IMHO there is a difference in fuels and now Tescos are on a par with major brand retailers,I know where my moneys going!

Happy motoring!

i've been using V-power constantly for several months now. it's definitely cause less problems for me as the DPF regeneration (fast idle no light) is less frequent than with regular diesel. I also add millars in every now and every 2 tanks. i personally don't trust supermarket fuels. tried them and they gave starting problems on my other cars and for my current car they are less smooth and produce a lot more soot. For those who don't have a DPF it's not a problem but for MK2 leon TDi FR owners, more soot means more DPF problems.

I've been using V-power for a while because it's just less hassle than normal diesel + Millers, and now prices have come down quite a lot round me (~108.9 for V-power now, at it's peak it was 120+ for standard). Not sure whether it makes a lot of difference performance wise but I see less smoke in people's headlights if I put my foot down at night so I think it does burn cleaner and maybe more efficiently (less wastage as smoke). Probably about due to do a few tanks of V-power plus Millers for a really good clean through but it's Christmas so it can wait. I don't think it's changed the economy either, I'm seeing more miles per tank now but I've also moved house recently so my driving style has changed a fair bit in the last few months (previously it'd always get opened up a bit down the A50 on my way to the motorway but I don't live that far from J25 now so it sort of crawls all the way to work now)

Nice to bump into you the other day by the way Glynn, sorry I was a bit vague, it always throws me a bit when I meet people "out of context". Bumped into my old boss in Tesco the other day and didn't realise till about 5 minutes after talking to him and wandering off who he was

Car looked nice though, I was tempted to try and go home in that instead of mine ;)
You wouldnt want mine Gavin she is getting on a bit now at 142k

i only use v-power as its 108.9 where i am
with millars and v-power on the way to work i can hit 60 mpg average without the millars that went down to just over 50mpg

I mainly stick in Tesco 99RON or Sainsbury 98RON (I don't tell the wife about the Sainsbury 98RON - she'd chop my balls off cause I didn't get her clubcard points!).

When I first got the car it ran like sh!t sometimes for no reason cause I was sticking plain old unleaded from anywhere. But after swapping to 99/98RON it runs so much better and feels slightly stronger when booting it. Plus I get 2-3 more on mpg and over a tank that works out to a round a gallon, working that back it pays for its self. So I'm spending no more and getting a smoother car.

Do we all dare do a mass test of some kind to test this idea that supermarket fuel is inferior. I've noticed a running theme through this post and thats the mention of the fuel additive millers. Can we use millers and supermarket fuel with no worry or just use stand alone branded fuel? Whats the cost difference? Is there a performance advantage? I think we should discuss and plan a way to find out. I'm in if you are :)

I would interested in the results... but I have to say that I've never thought much of fuel additives.

But if someone wants to prove a product like Millers will make my car more powerful and fuel efficent then I am happy to spend a little each time to gain back in the long run.

at a previous vocation we sold millers diesel additive

i will confess as to having no idea as to it's benefits (petrol head see :p) but all i can say is if customer satisfaction and sales figures are anything to go by then we could never keep the stock on the shelf long enough to read the labels

we sold shed loads and 90% of it was repeat sales too

if it's anything like the 'optimax' debate then i firmly stand on the positive side and will use nothing less 'EVER'

mine a petrol LC mate - millers is only for diesels I think (?).

But I'll happly try anything once for the benefit of mankind (well SCN'ers anyway). I wonder what the best petrol equivilant is?

aah missed u wasn't a tdi owner wisejason, I guess for a proper test it has to be a tdi. Thing is...it may work both ways but I do think millers is diesel only (I think, never tried it)

I'd still be interested. The wife drives a 2.9TDI Kia Sedona and that gives around town mpg that is shocking. A fill up is £85 and for that she gets 300-350 miles, so if this stuff is the decent then I'd whack some in here motor.

I guess you should try it anyways, but town driving is a killer of mpg. A benefit of slightly more power or efficiency might not show with ya missus. If u fancy try an additive and let us know if theres a diff, Millers was for sale in my local Halfords so try yours. Could be an interesting addition to the results assuming more people give it a go.
C'mon people lets try this thing, does millers work? Is supermarket fuel the same as Shell/BP/Texaco and whoever
We can sort this right here, right now! Post what ya find out!!

I've got two of my friends to give shell fuel a go. One has a mondeo 02 tdci the other has a skoda fabia tdi 04 (the engine bay on this looks identical to mine!). Both have reported certain cold starting situations/problems. The mondeo would randomly cutout under power after a cold start and then improve. The skoda would start but idle unevenly for 15secs.
So just on fuel alone lets see if a difference is noticed. I see the mondeo guy usually daily and the skoda girl once or twice a week. I'll post their findings as they inform me. I hope they notice an improvement as I almost promised them they would! [PLUS] both used supermarket fuel previously, mondeo - tesco, skoda - morrisons and the mondeo guy has already added redex as he thought he required it (didn't catch him in time to just use fuel for the test - damn)

My mate with the mondeo has solved his prob but.... he put the redex fuel cleaner into the old fuel then filled with shell v-power a day later and thinks it was the cleaner that did the trick as (he does a lot of miles) it was improving before the fill. So that test is tainted unfortunately. He does like the shell fuel tho' 'cos it doesn't have an odour and leave his hand stinking of diesel!
Told him to try another tank full (which he's happy to do) and see if he notices a difference, so far nothing tho' in terms of performance or mpg. Damn I really thought there was a significant difference! Lets see if time will tell but I expected a resounding success...
[EDIT] If ur interested in this please post :) I really do want a conclusion to this question and two of my mates doesn't make census!
