Had the worst weekend, let me set the scene and explain wot happened.
Saturday 1st November, driving down the M1 at cruising speed in my 2002 Leon 1.6 16V, approaching junction 21 when all of a sudden i feel a loss in power.

Tried to drop a gear to see if that helps but didnt make any difference, so i got off at juction 21 and was coming to a stop when all of a sudden the EPC light came on and stayed on and suddenly my car stalled.

The lights turned green and i just managed to get it started but noticed it was misfiring like mad and the whole car was shaking, i almost believed i was driving a subaru impreza. managed to get to my destination doing a top speed of 60mph down the M69 and set the car to sleep for the night thinking i'll get looked at in the morning.

Sunday 2nd November, no mechanics available to come and look at the car and the only one couldnt make it till the evening, decided to wait and but he couldnt make either. Called the breakdown service and they came and checked it over, but this time the epc light didn't come on and the car was smoking like mad and had no oil in it, still misfiring and sounding like a subaru impreza.

Got it towed home to Bradford and called a couple of mechanics who told me based on the symptoms ur engine is shot, and the best option is to buy a new engine rather then recon the old one. one mechanic told me it could be the EGR valve thats clogged.

Can anyone help me shed some light as i really dont want to be paying out for a new engine!

Need Help ASAP:confused: Any advice would be much appreciated.

When did you last have it serviced? Was it serviced properly?

Also did the oil light come on at any stage - not that this makes much difference.

Had it serviced on the 28th August 2008 and had the cam belt done at the same time as i was unsure if it had been done or not, the oil light only came on after the loss in power but didnt stay on, it just flashed a couple of times and went away.

That was when you should have checked the oil levels.

sounds like its dropped a valve to me, lack of oil getting to the top of the engine maybe?

id take it to garage where you had service but you should check the fookin oil or are you a woman?

I did actually check the oil before i set off but due the problem in the engine it burnt all the oil.

I don't know about you but i don't get out of my car on the motorway just to randomly check my oil, i'm not mystic meg therefore i didnt know my car burnt the oil, but if you are psychic can you tell me some lottery numbers??? And by the way the only time i could have checked it was after the problem which would make no difference at all!

So you had 5ltrs of oil in your engine before you set off?

How many miles did you do on the motorway before all the oil burnt away? If 5ltrs of oil did just dissapear then I don't think it was burning away, more like loosing it due to a hole or bad gasket etc.
