as the RPM's were being discussed here, and I had very little to do at work this morning I figured I do some searching:

this is what I came up with:

Did you know: (Did my best translating from a Dutch site)

the use of non synthetic oil can result in turbo damage, especially if not changed often enough.
Mixing non synthetic and synthetic oil is not always a good option, as its possible they do not properly mix
if the engine is filled with synthetic oil, and topped up with non synthetic, the synthetic oil can can lose up to 50% of its effect
when oil pressure is low in engine the turbo is the first part to suffer
Sumppressure or blocked oil breather pipes will cause the turbo to leak
The turbo turbine of 20.000 rpm accelerates over 150.000 rpm within 1 second
The maximum a turbo axle may be unbalanced equals a force of 2KG, which is often exceeded to 6KG before people get their turbo looked at/repaired
The air sucked in by the turbo travels at a speed approaching Mach 1
New generation turbo's can reach RPM's up to 220,000 rotations a minute, apposed to the propelor of a Boeiing 747 'only' spinning at 7,000 rotations a minute
Average exhaust temperature in the turbo for a diesel lies at 800 degrees celcius and for a gasoline 1000; hot enough to melt glass
Many people, wrongfully, assume that the dirt present in the engine is filtered out by the oilfilter, before it can do damage to engine parts/turbo (Glad I installed my catch tank lol)
A turbo spinning without oil for 4 seconds already causes damage to the bearings.
A turbo spinning 8 seconds without oil, is permanently damaged.
A turbo spinning without oil for 4 seconds is comparable to an engine running without oil for 4 minutes

interesting read that...got to love the engineering side to turbo's im assuming the new generation turbo's that can reach 220,000 rpm would be ball bearing turbo's. I had a look on the internet about oil starvation on turbo's and the damage caused...not somthing id like to happen to mine...oh and by the way REUVERS good translation much better than i could do from english to dutch...lol...

The thing I can't believe is why there isn't a electrical oil pump on the market to prime the turbo on startup then allow oil to circulate for a given time when the engine is switched off?

thanks silencer. not so difficult for me, always studied in English.

what would be the need for it on startup there is no excesive spool on the turbo and it not spooling when the car off anyway..?? Unless u mean for cooling reasons but then there is a system on the market for this anyway...

moreso, we have a system fitted which cools the turbo after you dissengage engine ;)
