Dipped beam broken!

Hi all, Ive had a good search on the forum but have struggled to find anything conclusive. My dipped beams on my 2004 LCR have suddenly stopped working, i've check the bulbs and bought new ones, fuses for each are fine. I'm under the impression that it could be the swithc or a relay, but I have no idea what relay it could be? also the level adjusting motors dont seem to run either. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the lights at all. Kinda rubbish time of year for them to break!! Cheers

Hi mate, there is no relay for the headlights, the power goes through the switch itself. If you've replaced the bulbs and the fuses are ok, then i think you can be fairly sure it's probably the switch or maybe the contacts in the connector. It's easy to get out and it should be easy to find one on Ebay. There are plenty of leons being broken for spares atm. This video shows how to take it out the dash, it's push in and turn slightly to release the lugs.

I don't have a wiring diagram anymore after my old hard drive died. There used to be a program called 'Elsawin' that contained wiring, but it's hard to come by now as ebay stopped people selling it because of copyright issues with the software.

Thanks for the information, I just couldn’t be sure there wasn’t a relay, but it had crossed my mind it could be part of the switch. I’ve managed to source one and hopefully it comes soon. Puts my mind a little more at ease though, hopefully the last bit to check/change fixes the problem.

Ok so after getting the information saying there’s no relay for sure, I decided to take the switch apart and yeah there’s a bit of what appears to be time served related plastic melting having gone on.

So fairly straight forward to get the switch apart and just cleaned up the melted plastic and added a blob of solder to bring the level back up of the sunken contact and the lights are back to working for now till a new switch comes.

NIce work mate, glad you got it sorted. :)

Well done for taking the time to do a write up of the repairs too, i'm sure that'll help others in the future.

Always pop on the forum if I have a little issue. I usually find something to help so thought I’d try to give a little bit of something back.
