Cleaning advice for you guys...

If you don't want to take the TB off you can clean it my using a rag and carb cleaner. To get get both sides undo the intake pipe, turn the ignition on (but don't start it!) then get someone to press the accelerator all the way down. This should open the TB.

Otherwise there is a good guide here: http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/127279.aspx

You can reuse the gasket I suspect but for the cost of £2 its probably not worth it.

Would need to get hold of one first. Did you say there's somewhere near you that you can get them from? I won't be able to get anywhere to get one, unless I can get it delivered in time.

Cheers man, and yes, got your mobile number. Will text or PM you when I know when I can make it.

Yeah GSF is two minutes from work. Got to go there tomorrow anyway to get a new bulb - so I'll ask if they stock TB gaskets. If they do I'll pick you one up mate.

Jason, what bulb do you need? If it's a brake light I can give you one, it's the least I can do. I buy them in boxes rather than individually because both mine and the wife's Leons pop them every few months. Oh, and I may have suggested another Notts member give you a shout about VAG-COM. Hope you don't mind?

It's a front light mate, but thanks for the offer anyway. Just getting a cheap one as I'm fitting Hids March/April time.

No worries - who did you tell? Get them to drop me a PM.

Agree, some people see little gain. I did as it stopped the car wanting to stall when pulling away the first few times when cold.

Plus like you say its fairly simple maintenance which always a good thing.

This was it Jason:
it wont turnover, it was till this morning and just idling really bad but now cant get it to turn over or anything.

Unfortunately i dont have access or know anyone with Vag com :-(
I'm sure I can help out with VAG-COM, or rather ask WiseJason. He's in the Mansfield asda like me. He's really helpful, I'm sure he won't mind me punting his services
I haven't gone for HIDs yet, but I did take the two bog-standards out and fit simple xenon bulbs (like the Philips Blue Vision) so I have a couple of spares nonetheless if it helps?
