Diesel Smell Under Bonnet/Cabin

Hello Guys (and girls)

Since I have had my car I've had an issue with raw Diesel smells.
Firstly I have narrowed it down to the Diesel Pump area....(on the right side of the engine)
It looks like the pump maybe runs off the camshaft?
My car is a 1.9TDI Ibiza 2003 sport...

The smell is Raw diesel...very strong under the bonnet, when cold and having the heaters on in the morning I can smell it in the cabin....

I've had it quickly looked at in a garage and they seem to think its a seal/gasket that goes from the camshaft to the pump....(this isn't confirmed)

Although I've been doing some searching and found SEAT did a re-call in 2004 for dodgy pump bolts....

Can anyone help me out so I don't have to pay expensive bills for this all to be taken apart at a garage?? Oh, and its damp around the pump area...

Thanks!

Sam

If SEAT done a recall i would contact your garage and see if you are eligible to have your car worked on for free. If you tell them the problem and they think it might be that then you might get some free work AND diagnostics if they change it all and the smell is still there. Problem solved(maybe)

I will give them a call as soon as possible, I hope they're open at 5:30 :(

Not a leaking diesel filter is it?

My 2003 Fiesta TDCI had the same problem, was fuel and fume mix and turned to be injector seals, which is a common fault on the Fiesta, not heard of it on the Ibiza.

Hi any luck with your problem, as im also experiencing similar problem. mines you can smell more exhaust fumes than raw diesel. Had exhaust system checked at ATS and its fine. Could it be possibly the injector seals as my m8 merc had the same problem and it was the seals. How would you check them because they are under the rocker cover, im assuming if you take the cover of you would have to replace the cover seal as well.

add me to the list!! only 50K+ miles how did you get on? there's some stuff on uk-mkivs site only parts available are pump to head gasket and the pump @£300 I'm going to try to seal mine

Hey Guys,

Update, leak is bad...from Diesel/Fuel/Vacuum Pump, whichever you want to call it.
£300 for a new pump....SEAT don't want to know....

Best thing to do, get a special seal that diesel wont eat through and seal it up....doing this next saturday...

I will keep you updated and anyone else please contribute !

Kind Regards,

Sam

I'm going to try Permatex "Indian Head" shellac as recomended I think by Mickey32's mechanic it's an old product and is available from www.realsteel.co.uk in Middlesex @£2.50 a bottle they mostly do yankee engines and so should know their onions some new descent bolts wouldn't go amiss either
