Also just suppose that the road tax bands based on CO2 are scrapped and replaced with something that is a composite of total pollution footprint.

If the tax bands are to be based on CO2 emissions (or a total pollution footprint) they should take mileage into account.

Scrap the current scheme, add an arbitrary amount onto the price at the petrol pumps. Means a fairer scheme where everyone pays for what they 'pollute' and the added benefit that nobody could avoid paying road tax.

so now SEAT has confirmed their cars are effected, what are peoples thoughts / concerns about this?

Personally thinking it might be time to get rid regardless of the fact I wanted to keep it for a lot longer.

Why, have you had any issues with it before all this has come out, I see it as emissions and not steering / brake or ignition recall which could result in death. So you will sell and buy another marque car and truth be know they will be hit with the same scandal too soon.

I just bought my Seat this week for the £0 road tax, high mpg and boot space really.
I have a Seat garage/dealer in my town figure if it is going to take a while they would give you a courtesy car.
Only thing that I would be concerned about is if I had to pay for road tax or if it effected something in the car noticeably.

Guess I just want to know weather my car is effected or not.

No I have no issue with the car, but what if/when the government puts up road tax due to the car being in the wrong bracket, what if the "fix" reduces the power output, I bought a 170ps car not a 160ps one (noticeable or not) etc etc.

This is why I wondering peoples opinions, i'm sure it'll all come out soon, just seems odd others haven't been concerned.

There is meant to be a search you can do, but I've not seen it on SEAT's site yet, VM is also meant to have one need to find a reg to see if it shows on their recall page.

Thanks, I will try the VW one when I get home :)

might not be effected I thought it was all diesels but apparently its only the 2.0

"Cars produced since 2009 fitted with the Volkswagen Group's EA189 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine are potentially affected."

I wouldn't even worry about it yet. Nothing has been confirmed about UK spec cars, if they have it's up to vw to contact you and arrange repairs.

I don't see the harm in waiting to see whether you get a letter from Seat. MJ answered my initial question in Post 2 of this thread, I have yet to see anything that contradicts his answer.

The latest news seems to narrow down the initial type EA 189 to EA 189 EU5, not sure whether the EU5 adds any new info.

76,773 SEATs are affected.

As my car is a 2.0 CR engine as stated by MJ I have good reason to be concerned, what the outcome is no one knows but this could affect resale values, tax, power etc

For example ha dI left me car on finance, I could easily see the equity I had earned wiped out, which wipes out monies towards a deposit. As I want to keep the car it's less of a concern unless they sap power in order to meet emissions targets. Until the fix is release who knows.

The cars that are affected, what happens if you have had an engine remap and received the recall? Do we loose everything? In that Seat will download a new software?

They haven't announced any details of what the fix will be yet, but the problem is with the engine software so the only way it could be fixed is to replace the software.

So yes, you will definitely lose custom software and maps if you take the car in to be fixed.
