doesnt really mean anything... they cannot prove it is illegal unless they have the equipment.

example: a copper cannot tell you to take the tints off the front windows unless he has proof they are illegal. hence why some carry the equipment.

its only a matter of time

The so called "diane-shop" HID kits are exactly the same as 99% of the chinese made kits, they are not specific to this one seller. They are very good though, I've had 3 sets on various cars from VVME (exactly the same kit).

Most OEM xenon headlamp units are 4300k colour temperature or less and actually put more light on the road. When you start to go higher than 4300k, the light gets more blue but is actually less effective at lighting the road in front of you. 10000k is almost purple and is almost certainly illegal.

There is no conclusive legal argument that aftermarket HIDs are illegal. I carry a copy of the road vehicle lighting regulations (the law for car lighting) in my glovebox just incase an over-important plod pulls me. The only requirement for a car's headlamps is that they are white in colour, within a certain height range from the ground and properly aligned. Quoted emails from the Department of Transport etc are not worth the paper they are written on and have no basis in law.

yeah thats true i have been pulled before in my golf and had to peel front tints there and then. only let in 2.3% light should be letting on 75% (limo tint) the copper was alone he stated if he had another copper with him my car would have been siezed! the thing the really pi**ed me off was that he was driving a undercover mitsibushi evo!!!

which is the best set to go for in her shop cause there a few different ones.

Just the standard H7 fitment

Search their shop for something like this " HID XENON CONVERSION KIT BULBS +BALLAST H7 6000K" and you will find it. That's the kit I bought.

Also if you buy it from the Australian shop you get them a bit cheaper because of x-change rates etc [B)]

HIV is talked about alot and its not good :p

They're aligned exactly the same as your standard halogen bulbs, no difference. They may raise the beam a touch so you might need to get the headlamps adjusted slightly lower. I did mine myself using an allen key and a wall. They passed the MOT fine.

In short, there is no special alignment process. You are not moving your reflectors, so as long as the bulb is properly fitted, you shouldn't have to have your headlamps re-aligned.

when i purchase mine next couple of months i will be asking for somone to fit them  good tip will be given

As stated above, not worth the paper its written on/pixels used to display it.

"In the Department's view"

When its been ratified by the House of Lords, we can start to worry about it, until then, the DFT's "view" doesn't mean squat!

Any of you lot MOT testers or asked an MOT tester about this? If you honestly think they give out the correct beam pattern then there would be nothing to worry about ;-)

I just want to know what an MOT tester who is aware of there being retro fitted HIDs would make of them.

"Mine went through ok" is not conclusive as it wouldn't be a first for an MOT tester to miss something.

I am interested in getting some sensible HIDs (i.e. the correct colour 4300K?) I just don't want to go to the hassle and then I get pulled or come MOT time the guy says "AHA! these have been retro fitted haven't they? Come here and i'll show you why the beam is wrong.."

:)

Tester actually asked me where I got the kit so he could buy some himself! 4300k is plenty white enough, 6000k is ok too, anything more is getting silly.
