As I said in an earlier post, I have a recurring problem with my diagnostic light coming on at random for a couple of days at a time. My dealer is, at best, unhelpful with this problem. (Blaming everything from not having the correct tools, even though they have a 1551, to blaming Seat UK.)

What concerns me is that according to the owner manual this light should flash if it comes on - mine does not - the warning light stays on continously.

Strangely enough, if it is a really cold night (-5 deg centigrade) the light is off in the morning.

Does anyone have any ideas (especially Flapper!) or have I really got myself a lemon!

Many thanks!

I also had a problem similar to this. The light would come on randomly for lengthy periods of time. After a while the light was on continuously.

Dealer diagnosed a faulty part and replaced it - this was thought to be generating the fault light. However, after replacing this part the light was only off for a few days before returning and staying on continuously again.

Returned to dealer who ran diagnostics and eventually traced a faulty Earth in the engine management as the cause of the problem. Haven't seen the light again! Touch wood.

Ross.

Cheers Guys!

Thanks folks, looks like it is time for a new dealer as the one I use just now doesn't seem to give a f@*%* about the fact the light is on!

I'm having a similar problem. It appears as follows.

I usually have to drive more than 30 km's, enough for the engine to get hot. Then I let it cool down. The next time I drive the engine up to the point it gets hot (at least about 5 km's), the engine managements daignostic light gets turned on and stays on continuously.

An immediate read out of the ECU fault log shows an error in cilinder row 1; the mixture is lean (sporadic).

Actions by the dealer up till now:
-reset
-switching injectors
-new lambda probe (first one, before the cat)
-software reinstall (of some kind)
-new spark pluges
-new computer (hardware/chip) for the engine management

The light is still on. Ideas, anyone?

Hi, I'm new to this site. 2 weeks ago I got the amber 'excess pollution light', took it to seat they rigged it up to the computer and also test drove it (it was drving fine) so they erased the fault and told me to monitor it, they said it may not come on again but if it does I'd need a new coolent pump + thermostat. They advised me not to drive it until the work had been done. I'ts booked in at seat on Monday and going to cost me £360. I'm not that happy about this as I've read about other people just having the thermostat replaced and all being ok, do I really need both?
