"Device not functional" - iPhone connectivity issues

Hi all,

I'm new to the group so forgive me if I have made any mistakes.

I have a 2011 Leon (MK2) with the standard RCD310 radio/multimedia system. When I plug my iPhone X into the USB port it brings up the error message "Media-In: Device not functional". I appreciate I have quite a new phone for a not so new car, however I wondered whether there was a fix for this? There are a few other threads dotted about for this issue, but they are all so old that none of the links that offer a solution work anymore!

If anyone has any ideas, be it, the link to a firmware update, a wire that might fix the issue, anything?! Please let me know.

Thanks in advance,
George

The USB on these older units is usually for mass storage devices (USB sticks etc.) only. The older threads point to a solution where you coulds tell your iPhone to act like a usb stick. This was removed from IOS some time ago as it's alot of work and causes other issues with software.

If you have the bluetooth module you may be able to stream music, otherwise use an aux port. You can get bluetooth adapters that plug into an aux port as the iPhone X doesnt have a headphone jack does it?

I can't imagine it would be particularly easy to find these days but Seat sold an adapter for iPods / iPhones with the old 30 pin connector that used the USB for control and track info and the 3.5mm aux in for the audio. I have one of these and it works with a 30 pin to lightning adapter.

Firstly, thanks very much for your reply.

The main issue is me being a bit picky really! Ideally I would like to be able to use the cars original features so that I can change the track with the steering wheel etc. and avoid using things like bluetooth adapters, but that is something I've considered and I have up to now been using the aux port.

The car definitely has the bluetooth module because my phone connects and works for phone calls. However I can't seem to get it to play music via the bluetooth, doesn't seem right to me but maybe that's just the way they are designed. Any ideas?

Thanks again for your reply.

Thanks for that, I'll have a look around and see if I can find one. Unless you have any ideas where you think I'd be able to find one?

It was the same on my old Seat, back when bluetooth was just starting to be integrated into most cars streaming was not a priority I guess . I suggest following @Rusty2k 's idea then for the official adapter. Might be worth phoning your local dealer? The RCD310 was also fitted to many VW cars so listings may not include Seat's, just a fyi.
