I think they will look good if done tastefully... Adam's do - he has thin black stripes on a dark blue Leon which is nice and subtle.
I toyed with the idea of doing a stripe on my car and had a few tests on the Xbox don't know if any of these pics will be useful to you.

Was always tempted by a black CUPRA (inc flag pattern) logo on my Blue Cupra, but never took the plunge

I think the Black stripe on the blue car is a nice subtle mod which isn't too tacky!!! Looks well
