Model Year 23/24 Dealer messed up my infotainment

My car went into the dealer today for the SOS error / GPS location issue and condensation in headlights.

They diagnosed an antenna control module. They didn't change it as they didn't have the module in stock. So, it has to go back in 2 weeks. Cupra refused the change headlights despite me having pictures of it, as the water is not "pooling" in the bottom.

Anyway, I get in and the infotainment is displaying "hello, loading settings". I went for some fuel and it was still displaying it. So, I went back, but no technicians were available. Someone did help and just reset it and tried to turn off / on Bluetooth and WiFi on my phone and tried restarting my phone but nothing helped. The only icon the works is the car icon. This also shows "

Sounds silly but have you tried pulling the fuse and reinserting it?
Not yet. I can't figure what they have done. I think maybe they have used the guest account for testing / diagnosis account and failed to disconnect it properly and it is now looking for the technician's phone.

I obviously can't enter my S-PIN as I can't get to the login screen.

I did find a discussion about this on another forum, and it seems to be related to the SOS fault, which is what it went in for.

https://www.atecaforums.co.uk/threads/sos-fault-and-possible-solution.4431/page-2

I have tried what they suggested here, by triggering the SOS call, but it didn't help.

Maybe when they replace the antenna control module and fix the SOS fault, it will sort itself out. That leaves me with no infotainment for 2 weeks though. Not really acceptable.

I love the car, but this is driving me crazy.

Well this morning I got in expecting to see the loading settings screen, but the radio came to life and all is working again (apart from the original SOS fault). This sort of thing where faults clear by themselves is simply maddening for an engineer like me. Faults should only clear when some action is taken. Grrrr!!

It leaves the impression that the faults were not dealt with, whatever they were, and they might return anytime soon. A software developer here.

To be honest I don't think the technician's know how these high tech cars really work. They say things that just don't make sense. They need to be higher educated and be better trained. I work on HMI and PLC control systems, and have developed real time embedded OS. So, it is all second nature to me. If I had their tools, I'm sure I could do a better job. Alas, I'm at their mercy.

Oh, and they left the battery terminal cover loose under the bonnet on the scuttle. I've sent them a complaint email. Not good enough I'm afraid.

Probably had an over the air update when it started working again. The trusty long hold on the on/off button or pulling the fuse out. Who knows...

It feeds into whether you keep connect services going long term staying ahead of system issues and up to date or whether you stop spinning the wheel.

Don't think it was an OTA update as it started working again one morning as soon as I got in. I think whatever actions it needed to do eventually succeeded or it just gave up trying. Who knows? The dealer certainly doesn't. I still can't set myself as primary user, as it the my cupra app can't see the car as the antenna module is still faulty. I've just recently renewed my subscription too. So, I've paid for and not been able to use it for best part of a month. If I could be bothered, I could chase a partial refund, but given it was only £35 for the year, it isn't really worth the bother.

Given the **** software, I am giving very serious thought to an extended warranty once the 3 years are up. Could be a money pit otherwise. Although, I'm pretty good at fixing this sort of stuff myself.

If your main concern is software-related issues once the manufacturer’s warranty expires, before you buy an extended warranty check the warranty wording carefully to make sure it actually covers software-related issues. In my experience, most extended and aftermarket car warranties restrict cover to sudden and unexpected mechanical and electrical failures (with the usual insurance-based exclusions), so IMHO it would be advisable to check the small print to establish what software-related issues would - or wouldn’t - be covered.

Anyone know where the antenna control module is located and what is required to be removed to get to it?
I am slightly concerned about the dealership's competency given what I have seen so far, but given that they are the only one in reasonable traveling distance, I have limited options.
So, Id like to know what parts to check have been replaced correctly (or at all).

You might have to shell out £8 or something and download all the service manuals in PDF form from Erwin the official Vag documentation / service library. If you register as a small business I'm told you see more than as an end user. Think you see the service history as well. It's changed since when I logged on last so things I saw before have moved into the dealer bit but according to @cairus you just register differently as a dealer and see more.

Two hours should do it. On payment when I first logged on it needed street and then house number the European way else it refused to recognise your visa UK address. That may have changed.

There are diagrams and text. Not all diagrams are not that clear. Index pages. The SSP are useful, training manuals for the dealer network. You might find a diagram and text of the antenna control unit... think that might also go under the name of the telematics box. The latter is the one that @East Yorkshire Retrofits identifies that needs the firmware update to stop the emergency call going off. It all seems to be tied to the infotainment firmware version, telematics box and steering wheel fitted... the latter may be why some of the other threads are preoccupied with changing steering wheels. Where those dealer notes steer them in the right direction. So DIY firmware updates can then lead to the walls tumbling down since people haven't got all the facts.🫢... if they are not a very good dealer they can instigate the issue, although the issue is suppose to have been put to bed several years ago.
