Can anyone help? The dashboard lights on my Father's T Sport have stopped working. The speedometer doesn't work either. The only things that do come on are the lights for the battery and the sidelights.

He fitted some HID's 2 days ago and everything was fine in the morning but then later in the day the dash lights would not come on.

Try the fuse first, can't remember which one it is but easy to find when looking at the diagram on the fusebox cover.

The earth wire is under the battery you need to take it out and the battery tray to get it, if it that your lucky if not the instrument cluster has gone :( is it just those 2 lights that work and nothing else? clock, odo display revs?

Good luck electrical problems suck

The clock and mileage counters all work fine. The rev counter and speedometer don't. Just the battery lights up when he turns the ignition and the green light for the sidelights comes on when he turns the lights on. We thought he might have disturbed something when installing the HID's as he removed the battery cover.

I read another thread yesterday but that was for a Leon saying the earth wire is just to the right of the engine itself so I take that it is different on the Toledo?

does sound like something been disturbed by the hid fitting, from what i been told when i had speedo problems earths are under the battery tray that go to the dash, it could be a case of check all the earths in the engine bay to make sure its all good.

could try disconnecting the hids to see if they doing something werid, but you never know.

and apart from the boot, mk1 leon and mk2 toledo are the same for everything so advice for a leon will work on a toledo etc

We checked the earth today and it was fine, as were the fuses. Strange thing happened as we were on our way to pick my car up, one of the HID's went out and the came back on really dim. It went back to full brightness shortly after. Going to disconnect them tomorrow to see if it make any difference.

We will give them a check tomorrow if the weather is ok. We fitted HID's in my Leon a few weeks ago and everything is fine with them but something could have gone wrong somewhere.

Hope you find the problem, am sure it going to be something silly like a dodgy connection, good news at least it looks like somthing simple and cheap/free to fix rather than getting clocks etc fixed.

Bit of an update - We disconnected the HID's but none of the dash lights would work still. Then, all of a sudden, they started working this morning. The red light was flashing on the temp gauge and all other lights worked. Then they decided not to work again a few minutes later.

Glad they worked a bit, best thing you can do is have a good look at all the wiring and eath points and get hold of sombody with vagcom, its a lot of messing around but electric problems are like that sadly, good luck in the hunt.

with the vag com, go for a drive and watch the feed from the speedo, if it works then the cluster could be dead from my hunting around with my speedo issues this seemed to be a good test to see if the clocks are faulty, still have a hunt around earths tho its a free fix.
