Dash Vibrations

Morning All,

So, picked up a very nice looking and well equipped Mk3 Leon FR TSI ECO 150 last week.
Been driving a handful of days and it drives lovely.

The only thing that I notice is when I'm driving on slightly rougher or bumpy roads I can hear distinct vibrations coming from the dash area, both sides, almost like from around the air vents area?

The car is a 65 plate registered in Dec '15. (just under 3.5 years old) 35k on the clock.

Is it normal for these cars to start developing these kinds of vibrations/creaks and rattles at this stage in their life and what can be done to stem them? I have a 3 month Warranty with it under a SEAT franchised dealer.

Many Thanks

Welcome to Seat ownership! This is not uncommon to happen, you are lucky it only happens on rougher roads, my Leon vibrated even on smooth roads (it was a 63 plate, under 18 months at the time), it was the instrument binacle thing, then the door vibrated/rattled, A pillar, everything sorted under warranty by a competent dealer, they added some expanding foam stuff...my next car, Seat Ibiza, nothing rattled, now got a Volvo V40, rarely it does rattle..in the floating centre console area..only on cobbled roads..

Thanks KXL,

This is why I want the dealer to get it sorted while it's still under it's 3 month Used Car Warranty. When I mentioned it to them the other day they seemed keen too get it fixed while it's also in for some bodywork touching up. If it's fairly common with these cars then they will most likely have had some experience with it in the past and know what they're looking for in terms of where it most likely occurs.

Bear in mind that, once the main rattle is fixed, it might uncover other smaller 'unheard' prior rattles

Oh the rattles !.

The common ones come from the door card I believe. My SEAT dealer replaced the plastic clips which didn’t work. They eventually used silicone to soften the areas where the vibration was happening.

It’s annoying but I’ve heard ppl using sound dapening material in the doors, boot etc which seems to make a lot of difference to noise and annoying rattles. Depends how much your OCD wants to kick in I suppose lol
