Dash-cam fuse: Can i use any of the mini-fuse positions?

Hi

I'm new around here, just picked up my Leon Cupra 300 DSG 4Drive. It's epic!

I am installing a dash cam following terryt's helpful guide posted on this forum, but the amazon seller posted the wrong piggyback fuse holder. I now have a mini-fuse holder, rather than the standard size I need to use for the 12V ciggy lighter.

Before I send it back, I was wondering if I can use any of the other mini-fuses instead (top half of the fuse box?).

If you can find one which is powered off the ignition then i'd imagine it will be fine (tho I am not a car electrician).

The one in Terrys guide is good because it is the cigarette lighter (12v socket) so it only is on when the key is turned, when you turn ignition off the socket is switched off so the camera is never left on when the key is out.

That's what I'm actually asking about, if anyone knows if there is a mini-fuse controlled by the ignition. The 12v socket uses a dtandard size fuse, which my piggy back holder doesn't fit.

You really need to check fuse locations with voltmeter to be sure switched or perm live depending on what you require.

I can check which switched live I use tomorrow if it helps?

Spend £1.79 on a new piggyback.

Thanks for the offer. Don't worry, I just asked in case someone already knew and I could sort it straight away. I just ordered the correct size piggy back instead, whats a few more days

Wise choice. Fitting will be a doddle with right kit
