Well, I guess its time for a readers ride!

I wasn't going to do one of these because currently being a poor student I can barely afford to run the thing letalone do any mods. But these threads aren't necessarily about pumping money into cars to make them look pretty (although I'd love to follow in the footsteps of ScottHmk4 with my car!). This thread, until I begin full time work anyway, will be more dedicated to little mods, maintenance and small details until I have some decent money in.

So here it is, my first car. A 2003 Seat Ibiza 1.2 5 Door. Would you believe I'm paying around £1900 a year to insure it... on a box ! Being 18 though I suppose I will have to live with it. Anyways, bought this for £975 so of course will expect a few issues from time to time, engine has 105k too... but only had 2 previous owners, the first were an old couple who maintained it very well, full service history, and the second a local guy who had bought it for just 6 months as a temporary car whilst he saved for a new Audi A3.

So as you can see, pretty tidy for the money. No major cosmetic issues bar a bit of paint chipping and a tiny patch of rust under the drivers door. Look at those plates though... Weird spacing and no markings on them. Definitely illegal - but I just think they look really odd. Number plates ordered and shortly arrive - so there's the first job!

The rear one was actually nearly orange, and it was stuck on so well that I snapped it clean in half yanking it off. Good job the new ones are to hand! Soon got them drilled on and looking much better.

The chrome trim around the front grilles was flaking badly, and coming slightly loose. The paint on them was actually running down the front bumper in the rain. I also think for some reason it makes the front end look really girly or 'grandad-y'.... So about £14 later I had a pair of brand new pre-facelift FR front honeycomb grills. Those things can be a pain to unclip, and mine were stuck on extra tight, so I got a helping hand yanking them out. Let the transformation begin :D

Gave it a good clean once the new grilles and plates were on, so have a tasty before and after. I think its tiny details like this that can have a huge difference on the appearance of the car - much better now in my opinion and for about £25 all in. This picture also makes me notice just how wonky the old plate was drilled on

So there's the minor exterior work done - onto the inside.

As you may have noticed on the first pictures of the car, there's some funky stuff going on in here. For one, the glovebox is broken. One hinge is ruined and the latch doesnt work at all so it's permanently stuck open. Also, there's a big chunky hands free kit for an old nokia - large cradle, speaker in the passenger footwell, microphone on the roof. The previous owner said it was there when he got it and he never touched it. Old folk and their trusty Nokia's :p

Luckily the interior is pretty much spotless. Very very clean, no tears or anything. First things first, lets at least get this glovebox shut so I can stop hitting my knees on it

Ripped off the side of the dash and took out the hinge pin, took off the glovebox door and gave it a huge smack... PING! The latch becomes unstuck and works fine. :D So for now, time to just shut it and leave it till I can get hold of a second pin, the part that is missing. Took out the cubby in the dash and unscrewed the cradle, unscrewed the speaker, cut all the wires and blanked them off. Here we are taking it all out from inside the dash, an annoying process but it gets it all out the way. Last but not least, ripped off the mic from the roof and tucked the wire away.

The resulting massacre  Finally all of the Nokia crap is out of my way and stowed away where it shall probably never be used again. Interior is much cleaner! Now onto the glovebox again.

Here's the little pin that keeps the hinges in place. The right hand one was completely missing! Thanks to a user on here and a bit of searching through a strange Russian website, I got a part code - 6L0857169 9B9 - apparently cheap from Seat Dealers. Before this, I had been quoted up to £25 from breakers! Luckily I found one cheaply fairly local and when I got there the guy said to take it for free as he didn't have any change. Result!

My friend kindly provided a photo of me upside down taking the bottom of the dash out to fit the pin.... Got the job done however and now have a nice working glovebox! The latch is still a bit naff but, it's come a long way. With everything refitted, the interior is looking much cleaner so far. Cost of all this - zero :D

Uh oh! went outside to see a small puddle of oil under the front of the car about the size of my palm. Seems to be coming mainly from the top of the engine and trickling down, but the bottom is pretty saturated and thats where its dripping. Pretty sure it originates from the top though as you can see here ! I've been told rocker cover gasket perhaps ? Hope its nothing major. :(
