Damaged rear wheel and bodywork

Hi all
My FR TDI got punted in the rear nearside yesterday, the road was 2" thick sheet ice. I was minding my own business and traveling very slowly towards a main road when a transit van come down a side street to my left all locked up and blowing his horn like mad.
As soon as I saw him I hit the gas and accelerated forwards but I did not get quite far enough before he hit the nearside rear wheel and quarter panel.
The car spun round so I was facing where I had come from, the guy was very apologetic but there was not a lot he could do.
The rear wheel has a load of toe out, a deep scratch on the alloy, the rear bumper is pushed off and there is a deep dent in the bodywork between the door and the bumper.
As the car was not drivable Swiftcover arranged collection and it's now in a compound somewhere waiting to be take to a body shop.

Has anyone had any experience of getting the rear suspension / bodywork repaired after and accident?
There are so many posts of people with castellated tyres, something I have not had. I worry that the repairs might not be so good.
The car is on a 56 plate registered Jan 2007.

Thats not good news mate , at least no one was hurt.
Hopefully the damage is just something that has been bent and can be fixed for new parts , i do know what you mean though about it being right.

i had a mk2 XR2 which was hit side on on the rear 3/4 panel , got it all fixed but my mate was following me one day and said my car looked like it was crabbing down the road , it never felt the same ever again , shame really.

Just make sure you have a full 4 wheel alignment done as part of the repairs.
Good luck.
