Evening guys,

I am about to purchase a kestrel DAS-6 DA polisher as my Leon has been massively neglected for over 2 years and haven't done any detailing or proper cleaning in that time.

I have quite a few scratches, dents and dings which I will be sorting at the same time, I have already rubbed down the minor scratches with 2000 grit paper and have just sprayed an LCR bumper that I need to flatten down the orange peal and bring the gloss shine through.

so with those tasks in mind The current products I'm looking in to buying are:

Meguiars Professional 105 Ultra Cut Compound & 205 Ultra Finishing Polish, Menzerna 135mm Compounding Polishing and Finishing Pads then finnish off with Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection.

Is their anything I am missing or might need or are thier other products that might do a better job?

your opinions are massively appreciated I really want to bring this car back to life!

Many Thanks,
Jason

p.s sorry for the long post didn't intend to be that long :D

I have just used a das 6 pro with menzerna 2300 and 4500 with menzerna pads. It came up really well, no swirl marks left at all. I then used AG extra gloss sealent for the first time. Applied by hand as there is no beneift to applying with da. I left for half hour to cure then buffed off by hand. I was very impressed, literally left paint silky smooth with a wet look finish, it was the easiest product to remove i have ever used. Going to apply nattys poorboys liquid blue wax on top next time I wash to deepen the colour finish. Check out my thread of the experience.

No worries. You sound like you have done polishing by machine be fore, but if not you need to start with the least abrasive polish and pad and work your way back of the are giving enough correction. I had the cutting, polishing and finishing pads and most time I just used the finishing pad with 2300 and then again with the 4500 and it did the job. I used the medium pad on the tougher bits. Obviously It did the job alot quicker with the medium so next time if im happy its not taking too much off I will be a bit braver and use it more. (Didnt even open the cutting pad)

Buy the menzerna kit from cleanyourcar, its the cheapest option by far and I searched for hours. Mine arrived very quickly. If you google discount codes you will find a 5% one its something like s2kuk. There are several on different forums if thats not it.

I have fabled a little bit with a standard polisher but haven't ever corrected paint before so this is a bit new to me, Thanks for the cleanypurcar.com advice I'll check it out I'll be hoping to get everything buy the weekend so this may be a big help, I'll post some before and after pics on my first effort at paint correction :)

I have the Menzerna stuff too, think I have 4000 and 1500? Does the job nicely. I have Megs ultimate compound and a cutting pad for heavily swirled areas as 1500 was taking a lifetime to get through it, paint seems to be quite hard on my car.

I'm still torn on what compound to use however I have a very light colours car and I'm not sure how it would stand up to the meguiars abrasive so I will more than likely go for the Menzerna , if I require further cutting then may go for the meguiars, I'm not to fussed going over it a couple of times to get the desired Finnish so won't likely need it, thanks guys

Think alot of the compunds are the same, they just come down to personal preference as some are easier to buff off and some have longer working times etc. Alot of people like meguiars but i think alot of that is to do with feeling safer with a name they have heard more of. Google the brand names and see what you think. There is a mass of information on detailing world.

Google machine polishing by dual action polisher.pdf and download it.

Until then here is an online version with some of the info not all.

Can I just add that the Scholl Concepts Polishes\Compounds are really good on a DA, I'd recommend one of Scholls white spider pads with either Scholl s17+ and then refine on an orange scholl polishing pad with s40 now I struggled to remove anything more than swirling with the s40 combo on my mk4 golf as the paints hard as nails so I'd recommend maybe stepping the compound up to scholl s3 gold that should remove any defects deeper marks then again refine with s40

As a note the S17+ with multiple hits on the same area did slowly refine any deeper marks making them much less visible. Gave my paint a gorgeous gloss.

I worked it straight at speed 5 on my DA spreading then about 4 passes.

Oh and it's very easy polish to work with little dusting aswell which is nice and didn't effect my trim etc. I also did the family bus cmax all over with just the s40 on an orange pad and again the glossy results were really good.

Good prep helps tho and I had used trix all over then clayed the car to remove contamination.

Hey guys,

Bit of an update, I decided to go for the Menzerna pads, Meguiars 105 and 205 as I got a deal when purchasing both and will be finishing off with Autoglym extra gloss protection.

So as I said in my first post the initial aim was to finish off my front bumper that I had sprayed myself, The lacquer had quite a bit of orange peal and had a matt like Finnish then I will be going over the the rest of the car repairing scratches and generally giving the paint a good going over.

I didn't take a good close up picture of the bumper to show the orange peal but here is what it looked like

So I went wet sanded the bumper using 2000 grit paper then set to work with the das6 and i was really pleased with the Finnish, the pictures arnt grate as the light was getting poor

Yeah I bet it does my paint felt like glass after claying polishing silky smooth. Good luck with the rest of it, it's a long hard task.
