Current economy figures

I am a little bit shocked that some of you keep a spreadsheet.......

I have had my car three years and not done this.. Do we not trust the onboard calculator?

With rising fuel prices and cost of living etc I wanted to make sure I was using my Diesel proper. I am pleased with most of the figures on that sheet. So yes a little sad and geeky but I don't care

I don't have a lot of money after mortgage etc has come out hence the spread sheet

I'll post the formulas tomorrow when I back on my work lappeh (where the spreadsheet is)

I use Shell Extra and Millers Power Plus exclusively. However, it wasn't until over 65000 miles that I saw the high average mileages

Those figure should be reached with ease TBH.
That said, my car is remapped and runs exclusively on Shell Extra and Millers, so those 3 factors might help.

You've got me confuzzled... I'm getting between 42 and 44mpg, 2/3 motorway and 1/3 fast moving town driving. Mine too is remapped, run only on BP Ultimate. Mine is far noisier when using Shell fuels and over a 2000-ish mile period, Millers made no noticable difference in either performance or economy.

I just suppose it's the luck of the draw really, different engines of the same type are more effecient than others.

Quite disappointing really as my 2ltr 16v Astra manages around 34mpg on the same journey.

BP makes my car awfull, so i'm not overly shocked. Try an ecu reset every now and then to see if that helps.

Anything other than Shell or BP and my car runs like a bag of spanners.

Right so formulas.

Av cost of fuel: =AVERAGE(F:F)
Fuel Cost to date: =SUM(G14:G1002)
Av MPG to date: =AVERAGE(E14:E1002)
Total Litres: =SUM(B14:B1002)
Total Mileage: =SUM(D14: D1002) (remove the space)
Av Cost of tank: =AVERAGE(G14:G1002)
Av Mileage per tank: =AVERAGE(D14: D1002) (remove the space)

Work out Gallons: =SUM(B14/4.54)
MPG: =SUM(D14/C14)
Tank cost: =SUM(B14*F14) (this is to check figures match reciept)

I was thinking same thing as at just shy of £60 every 7 days is starting to cripple me and make life a bit dull not being able to do much.

I might make one in the new year to see how mine compares. Very rarely see below 600 miles per tank, and usually get 630 on average, so mine should prove to be fairly good over a few months.
I think i will add a column to compare the OBC version of MPG over a tankfull to the actual, and work out any differences.

OBC is usually 2-3mpg too optimistic

Pd150 = +/- 50mpg :d

Fr170 = +/- 40mpg

thats terrible for the small increase in performance

Mine hasn't been too bad in the past, but i'll make a point of comparing it in the future to see how much it is out by.

geeky would be comparing all the user data to generate an overall trend.....

just thought I'd have a quick go. only had the car a couple of weeks but the last fill up i ws on 421 miles, I then put £51.00 of fuel @ 105.9p. That works out as 39.7MPG, not the 44.1 the computer told me :-(

Actually. Am I putting the wrong figs in?

If I, for example put £50 in last week and need to fill up now on 400 miles, do I use those figs to work it out so the MPG would be on those figs or would I work it out on say the 400 miles and todays cost to fill up, say £48? I'm confused, anyone help please?

You work it out as:

1. Fill up with fuel to brim
2. drive till empty or when ever you fill up
3. Record the number of litres used and mileage done i.e. 500miles
4. Using the amount of fuel you used between last fill and refilling as the fuel used to cover that distance.

My trip computer is roughly 3-4mpg on trip 2

To clarify:

1. I filled up last week at a cost of £51.00, this got me 10.61 gallons of fuel
2. I travelled 421 miles after putting in the £51.
3. I refilled today at a cost of £50.48 getting me 10.50 gallons

Therefore it's

421 miles divided by 10.50 gallons = 40.10 MPG

That correct.

Yes you are correct obviously you have to start from a full tank to get your figures....unless you car runs on air

amazed how some people can clear 50mpg with a PD150. The best I've ever got was 49mpg - granny driving from Darlington down the A1 to Cambridgeshire!

Well - had the stage 2 remap yesterday - using trip only (same as Darlington run) Managed 51.9mpg. So all in all quite happy. Variables I know, but still very happy considering. (drive at 80mph - climate on - ease on and off depending on traffic)

Would love to see how the remap pans out with more testing. But it looks promising.

Some selling points suggest that you can acheive greater mpg on a remap (within reason!). Absolutely blitzed an A3 2.0 TDI yesterday - traction on and off 3rd and 4th- just trying it out!

Reasonable power and economy - what more could you want.

Petrol is dead - long live the diesel. (Future M5's predicted to be diesel)

Depends on your driving style and type of driving you do. Do you do alot of town driving?

Hi Am at present during this cold snap averaging 51MPG on a 60/40 split motorway/town driving,2000 mile a month. Motorway is not much below 75/80 mph on a 180 mile run.During warmer weather was averaging 54MPG.This is using Tesco diesel,have tried the others and has made no noticeable improvement? OBC I find is up to 5MPG high on most occasions so cannot IMHO be relied upon.
