Starlet GT's are very quick and can hold 20psi of boost easily completely stock.

:roflmao: who told you that! Thats utter BS mate.

20Psi!!!

The Turbo on a starlet is about as big as a cooking apple :D

The reason the Starlet is so rapid, is a small turbo, smaller turbochargers spin up faster, but loose their 'pace' later up the rev range.

If you put a bleed on a Starlet and whacked it on 20psi, id expect to see a blown turbo within hours or even minutes!
A Stock car is not fuelled for such a massive increase of boost, so pistons would follow that turbo! Im not too sure on the standard setup of a Starlet, but its definately below 1BAR (14psi).

To answer Pulsebass's question, it would depend on the driver and who got the better launch, as the Starlet weighs as much as an empty box of cornflakes

After 70mph however, I would expect his chipped 20V Cupra to destroy it.

If its been modded, perhaps 1BAR boost is a safe bet, then expect a little more of a struggle, or hope he has a crap launch technique ;)

I drove one in that spec. It's common knowledge that they can hold that much boost anyway...I live in Jap car central so ppl have tried everything here. Most of the starlets run at least 16psi - I nearly bought one :)

They weight a tad over 800kg by the way - much the same as a Mk1 Golf. There's one down here with a Honda H22A in it and kills pretty much anything on the track.

P.S. and no, I didn't mean the old 'bleed valve joe' trick as a shoddy way of cranking the boost. I meant a jap piggyback computer like a Power FC...

Stock boost is usually 11-13psi, they're all over the place though, typical import...

Hi, (sorry to dig this one up!)

Just thought i'd post a comment about the tuning side of starlets (i own one). They most definately will NOT take 20 psi standard, the standard ECU will not allow for boost above 12 psi (fuel cut). The standard CT9 turbo becomes way too inefficient around 14.7 psi (1 bar-ish) and generates too much heat, detrimenting performance.

It will be an interesting challenge, i'd say the cupra would win above 80 or so, depending on mods of course. Your friend's starlet has similar mods to mine and I had mine tested at 122 WHP, calculated at 145 fly at Millway in Aldershot. A standard starlet EP82 (single headlamp) weighs 830 kg and the face lift EP82 (quad light) weighs 860 kg, the later Glanza's weighed around 100 kg more. From experience and if it's cold, the starlet will just hit Fuel cut with the mods listed and you'l win easily (in the real world).

Starlet GTs are very quick IMO. I had an encounter with one in my 306 Rallye and he had about 2 cars lengths on me upto around 80 then a flew past him doing 120+ and he was about 3 cars lengths behind me (all on private road of course). The starlet had a stainless exhaust but dont know about any other engine mods, my 306 was quicker than a standard Ibiza Cupra so with Revo I reckon you might edge it but it'll be close.

Hi mk4polo - when i say Aldershot, i mean Andover! (just realised the misspelling!oops!). They charged £25 for a run, but that was with a group of CRX's and Mr2 turbos......I'm not sure what they charge normally, but i'll try and find out?

lol sorry for late reply! just been trawling forums and realised i hadn't replied. Didn't think much of tuning japanese to be honest - very expensive and the guy was less than helpful when we went in and spoke to him.

I live near Hindhead/Guildford mate. Do you frequent the pod?

oh nice, that seems more convenient than Andover!

Yeah, i'm trying to get more runs in this year: i went yesterday and threw in a 14.2 @100 on my first go which suprised me as it was so slippery!

I'll be going along next weekend with a group of us from www.isitboat.co.uk/forum There'l be russ's (site owner's) mk.2 crx vtec, chris's rx-7 with 280 whp, pete's 1st gen rx7 and my EP82. If you fancied convoying down there with us mate you're most welcome! i wouldn't mind having a look at your cupra :) It shouldn't be too busy as most the slugs went yesterday (the neon/blowpipe crew: 'oiym hopin for a 20 second pass' etc).
