Sorry for starting yet another insurance thread but couldn't find what i wanted in a search.

i currently own a mk2 cupra sport and am looking to buy a mk3 cupra or cupra r.

i have came across a great chance of a 2002 cupra r but i've tried loads of places for insurance quotes and most places won't insure me, or if they do its over £3000!!!

now i know im only 19 with 1 yrs ncb but i can easily get insured on a mk3 cupra for £1000 fully comp.

i cant understand why there is such a big difference, anyone in a similar position or know any good places to go?

thanks in advance

What makes you want the 'Cupra R' over the 'Cupra'? and is it really worth the extra £2k on the insurance premium?

its not i'd rather have the cupra r over the cupra, its just that these cars are so scarce round here and a cracking cupra r is for sale. i sure as hell ain't paying that much for insurance thats for sure. i have tried elephant/admiral/bell, none of which would insure me til i am 21, used sites like confused to search loads of different insurers but no success. i guess i'll have to let this cupra r pass and wait patiently for a cupra to crop up.

simple the real diference is the rarity of the cupra R, when an insurer knows there are only 70 of these made then there premium generator will automatically load it as it thinks parts will be rare and hard to source thus expensive to repair. not reall the case. Go for the cupra, not much in it really.

The exact same thig has happened to the racing puma which is also expensive to repair due to rarity and being basically modified Tickford Pumas.

Mine was about £200 more to insure than the Cupra(about 4 years ago)

Depends on the price of the R?

If it's a good deal then go for it :)

But 3K to insure :-o

P.s have you tried HIC/Direct Line?

cheers for the info guys but just going to wait for a cupra to appear, not paying that much for insurance, especially when its not that different of a car.

its a black 2002 cupra r with 23,000 miles, totally standard i think, the guy says he would take £7k cash for it, which to be honest would be stretching my budget anyway!

away to put my cupra sport up for sale so will hopefully be back soon with a mk3.
