decided to give it a go and have a gas conversion done on my r mainly because im traveling alot of miles every day and the dam petrol prices are going sky high.

having a pinns system fitted which is suited for the 210 bph model and they are fitting it them selves which i am pleased about.

the cap for the gas is being placed behind my rear number plate on a sping loaded mechinisum which won't spoil the looks of the r and you will never know its there.will get some phot's in due corse.

really missing my baby.

Last bandit, let us know how you get on. I drive an Octy RS and am interested in having the Prins VSI system fitted, but some folk on the Briskoda forum give nothing but negative vibes about LPG.

also LPG is not as efficient as petrol so there will be a slight loss of about 4 to 5 mpg although in reality you wont notice this as the gas is so cheap it is also a lot cleaner and easier on the engine oil. Tax on lpg is creeping up now that more people are getting converted and it will get worse now that they think it is not the enviroment saving angel that thet first thought but they would say that so they can bump up the tax It doesent matter if you pollute as long as you pay for it.

Its not that LPG is less efficent, there is actually less energy in 1 l of lpg compared to 1l of petrol, thats where the drop in mpg comes from.

Yip looks like tax will increase on lpg as more people switch, cant have Mr Brown loosing out now can we!!!

my ibiza has been running on lpg for 4 years and 100k miles. i get about 15% less per gallon but as it's so cheap (realistically nearer 40p per litre btw) you don't notice.

you certainly need to do a big mileage, say 20k or more a year, to reap the benefit and i have to say that given the governments new attitude towards it i'd go for a tdi if i was buying now.

in scotland you can claim an 800 squid grant on ANY car converting to lpg.

my ibiza is at work this week (thrashing the pool octavia tdi estate instead - damn it's fast! ) but when i collect it on friday i'll let you know the make of kit.

it was fitted by an approved garage in inverness but, like any garage work, check whoever you choose is approved and speak to other customers first and you shouldn't go wrong.

looking under the bonnet you'd hardly know anything had changed. i can send a pic if you like?

Do you mean Prins? They are a Dutch company who specialise in LPG conversions.

Do you have to live in Scotland to get the grant or can you get the grant just by having the work carried out by a Scotland based garage?

Same as diesel then, used to b eat least 5p/l less than unleaded but over the last 4-5 years it's increased just as diesel car purchases have :thumbd:

According to greenfuel.org.uk, the Prins system is the best on the market. Who organised the fitting, did you go through Greenfuel?

oh dear......oh dear........LPG face the facts from an owner of a punto 1.8 hgt (my previous car) .....cost me then £1400, tank fitted was a 40litre, my car did about 32mpg on petrol, I lost 15 -20% consumption (YES!) it was that crap (the higher you rev- you guzzle LPG). so I was always having to stop at an LPG site with a shitty range of about 200 miles ish
thats another problem - still hardly any LPG sites - believe me this does get to be a complete pain in the rear - also takes longer to fill up (beleieve me this does pee you off - after a fast flow petrol pump) - also really annoying when one LPG pump - and you have to Q for it (!!!!!) ...this really will get to you (every day!!!!)
you do lose power - the guy that said you gain power is a LIAR!!! plain and simple.
I reckon on 5% power loss, at least!
LPG is only good for large engined motors - 3 litre plus - dont go near it for anything sporty/tuned.

And to cap my experience off - I had a blow back (basically a back fire)- whilst on LPG - My system was dual switchable, the inlet manifold exploded - loads of smoke - thought the whole car was going to blow up!!!!
(ON LPG a back fire can be catostrphic as LPG so explosive - petrol backfires as we know are just embarrasing - no damage!)
Seat will tell you to F**CK off - rip up ypur warranty - I kissed goodbye to a £1200 repair bill with sweet FA from Fiat - believe me I tried to get money back, via my solicitor - no joy.

I ended up getting the system taken off then selling the lump of shite!- at extra cost by another company - who then told me that the origianl system was nothing short of ilegal -yes if I'd had a rear end high speed -- BANG!!! bye bye me! no gas shut off valvle fitted , it wasnt even safe! the company who installed - have now gone tits up! so no comeback now anyway.
stay clear the industry is full of cowboys - AVOID - do not ruin a great car!!!!

GET A TDI 150 - dont ruin your CAR! ............... PLEASE

Any news LB?

Is it still running ok? Did it ruin your warranty?

Looking to do it to a brand new LCR as I have to buy my own company car now.
