Do you use sport mode on DSG
Or you only use Cupra mode that is enough.

Best performance is Cupra mode plus DSG sport?

From memory when you go into Cupra after starting the car it defaults the DSG to Sports Mode (eg the Gear Numbers are displayed as S1, S2 Etc) this gives you the best pulling power from the car.

When Driving in Comfort or Sport mode then putting the gear leaver into Sports mode means you adjust the gear change points higher so that you hold the gears but unless you are Individual mode (where you can chose Cupra settings for DCC, AIRCON Etc) i dont think you get the full setup of Cupra mode.

I do find if I’m in comfort or individual mode, the sound actuator gets louder when you knock the gearbox into sport mode. But weirdly it doesn’t go quite when you but it back into normal Drive mode.

Bit of bad coding by VAG, bit like it does not stay in cupra mode when you turn car off and back on again.

I turned the actuator off and replaced it with the woosh of the air intake system which i like a lot (not to loud but does give a nice sound when pushing along.

I used to love the whine of my supercharger on the MINI, especially when the CAI was fitted and a piece of the plastic was removed in the engine bay (helped with the CAI as well).

How do you get the woosh, more coding or from a CAI?

I have seen some clip that dsg fart sound got in 280
I have not feel or heard the dsg fart sound even in cupra mode.

Maybe they have change the mid exhaust

Put your back seats down and the DSG bang is like a gun going off in the car !!

Just CAI, You get a lovely sound when pushing hard as the air is sucked in and then when you take your foot of the gas it make another great sound.

Added to that you then have the Farts which on my 280 are very clear in the car but only under pressure not getting in the way when using the car in Comfort mode (eg taking my nan out)

CAI is next on my list after the exhaust on the 18th.

But doubt anything this side of a V6 will sound as good as the old supercharged MINi. That popped and banged on lift off like a good un

This car has to stay the family car, otherwise I’d be getting a down pipe too and sport cat too.

Agreed it wont but as somebody point out a while ago, when you get used to the power of the 280/290/300 stage 1 / 2/ 3 are not to expensive to migrate to get much more power. However on the V6 When you tire of it cost a lot more to do the upgrades.

Plenty of threads on here about taking out the front and mid silencer to get better pops

Anyway for me the Noise is a small part of the fun, the real pleasure and thrill is in the power delivery and handling of this car.
Plus the fact it does not shout in your face I AM A BMW RACE ME.

Yeah agree, the 4 pot Turbo is far better VFM. And a stage 1 will be done in a year or so.

But the pops and bangs combined with the whine of the supercharger on my old S was fantastic. The only thing thing that I preferred the sound of still with a 4 pot was a mates S2000 with a straight through exhaust. Sounded like the NA F1 cars!

Edit: I love the effotless power of the Cupra compared with the MINi, but as standard it lacks the drama orally that it can produce when driven hard. Hopefully that will soon change on the 18th thanks to Powervalve.

Well if you are happy to spend a bit of cash there are a few decent companies selling good systems including the flaps on the back exhaust box like the golf r and s3 to add a bit more noise, along with better flow so more power.

Having the Powervalve by BCS fitted on the 18th. Local to me and half the price of the electronically controlled valved systems.

I used a Revo one which you can buy here or you can buy them on ebay

If you are after power the the R600 is the best for the Cupra but does not give you the noise.

Also if you are on a 280 Cupra then the front panel only has one side open, I drilled the other side open and this helped as well.

Just to add to this i bought all mine second hand from Golf owners, much cheaper if you spend your time.

I had my centre silencer removed on my 280, turned the stupid actuator off with Carista and the DSG farts are louder. They aren’t 3 inch de-cat downpipe loud by any stretch of the imagination but they are audible in the car so are much louder from outside.

I actually find my car does them best with the engine in Cupra, dsg in normal and give it 75% beans so it changes at about 4500 revs or so.

Best way to hear it is get someone to record it as you pull away

The R600 was the one I was looking at as well, as want to ensure the intake is properly enclosed. Thanks for the heads up on the noise!

NP but check it fits your car, fine on the 280 and I think 290 (which had the water bottle on the left hand side).

The 300 has water bottle on the right hand side and not sure if the old R600 Fits in that space.
