Cupra 'Holding Back'?? :(

Every so often (about once every half hr of driving) my Cupra seems to really hold back when i put my foot down. Boost gauge goes up but no power, feels very much like driving off boost

Had the car VAG com'd and didnt show any problems (but i didnt experience the problem during the run ....... typical) Also took my DV apart and gave it a good clean but hasnt made any difference. Its really bugging me now as i never know if the car is going to perform when i want/need it to

Any suggestions?

Mine is similar, will show no faults with vagcom... unless i leave it a few days and I get the same reoccuring error code. I suspected my maf was failing, logged the g/s and all fingers are pointing at a dodo'd maf.

I thought MAF too, but it VAG com'd ok??

There's more to Vag-com than error codes - the car will throw up symptoms first.

I see. Well, say i'll be driving up a dual carrige way, shifting from 2nd to 3rd, revs go up then feel turbo cut in and get a dose of power, then shift into 4th, revs climb but no dose of power?? Revs just go up slowly like they would from 1000rpm to 3000rpm. Not always 4th though, but usually either 3rd or 4th from around 60mph+.

Theres definatly something a miss as 80% of the time the car pulls like a train through all gears?

I'm not familiar enough with APR to comment here.........
But you never get this in 2nd?
Where in the rev range does the loss of power start to show?

I can't say i've noticed it in 2nd tbh, but i don't usually push it in 2nd as the wheels just spin. Usually i notice the lack of power anywhere after 3.5k in 3rd 4th or 5th as this is where i would usually get a good dose of power. The car just dosnt go, i have to back right off then apply throttle again and then it goes fine. Its very odd.

The more you say, the more it seems you are getting the problem all the time.
Do you really think you are getting a good result by backing off, then re-applying power?

Yes definatly, and sometimes i dont have to back off. Sometimes if dont back off and just let the engine struggle it will suddenly start going again but not untill it reaches 5k. And sometimes it will stay like this for 5mins or so, and i wont get any power in any gear at any speed, just feels like i'm driving a non turbo'd car. Untill it suddenly decides to work again??

Identical symtoms to mine, not saying the cause is the same... but im suffering exactly what you describe. My car is standard ecu wise.

trying to find out if ur suffering same fate as me or not

basically somedays my car will be fine and i wont stop pushing it further
but other days LIKE TODAY istart it and driveand it wont pass 0 boost, its being held back and then slowly as the car warms it opens up fursther but basically today i drove for over 20mins and never reached 0.5bar, might haved maxed 0.3ish by time i parked up

Sorry i missed your last post. Thing is my boost gauge goes up as normal, even when the car is 'holding back' ??

It might be hitting limp mode.

Do you have a boost gauge? If its not passing ~5psi its in limp mode.

Get it plugged into VAGCOM nad see what the fault code is.

The boost gauge is going up fine as usual, had it on VAGCOM with no codes.

ahright thats abit dodgy?? boost pipe off maybe is ur problem?? or dodgy dv or dirty air filter? or something?

my problem is the turbo really is being held back as the boost is being limited on my gauge. but its random cos like today from first start it felt great and after 10mins or so warming up i was really hammering it

Same problem since 3 days now... my car just won´t push!!! even though here the climate is cooler than before (i live in Veracruz Mexico and temps are usually above 30°C now 22°C)... my boost gauge shows that I still get my 22psi peak andmy 18 constant, so. thinking on the N75 failing or maf, but I check on vag com and everything seems ok!!... maybe clutch is... ¿how dou you say it?, loosing grip or something?...

Yeah Bill did it on a run up the motorway but typically the car drove fine and didnt hold back while logging
