Hello all.

Bought myself a Cupra exhaust last night from a 34k car :p

I am guessing the rear trim will, well, need to be trimmed to fit the exhaust on? Anyone got any pictures of one on?

Also, is there anything I should be looking out for when fitting? Not sure whether I am going to do it myself yet, if my friends brother will run it on an MOT ramp I'll happily pay him lol. (I HATE fitting exhausts.. spend hours hanging and lining it up only for there to be a blow!)

Cheers

Mark

I dont have the plastic trim cut on mine. Im going to do it thought as at times it has a terrible vibration when at hitting the plastic.

One thing you may have to watch is the mounts. Ive had to jubilee-clip the hangers on the exhaust to the mounts as the are both the same way. Also keep an eye out for knocking in the exhaust tunnel under the handbrake. I have this problem but I know where its knocking and have a good idea of how to fix it.

Heres some pictures, not brilliant as they were taken on my phone but you get the idea.

I know they are fuzzy, i couldnt get my hands on a digital camera when i took them!!

I got the garage i use to fit it for me. It was in for a few things so i just got the exhaust and a strut brace fitted aswell. The only problems with it were the hangers (now fixed with jubilee clips!! :p) and still the knocking. When i turn left the centre box is moving to the right and knocking on the exhaust tunnel. Going to make a bracket to hold it in place better and stop it moving as much. And i know its knocking there because i used my car for work today and as soon as i got home i shook the exhaust and found where it was knocking. It only knocks when it is hot.

So i will measure for the bracket at the weekend or see what I can do to stop it moving.

Cheers for the info dood. Although now I got it a little unsure whether I wanna fit it hahaha. Seems like a headache! Oh well.. if I got any high temperature paint left I'll be spraying it at the weekend I guess. might as well stop the aging process a little! (Its weird how parts of it are stainless and parts mild steel?!!)

I'd post some pics up but apparently photobucket is down at the moment. I only needed to trim mine by about 5mm for it to fit. When you do go to get it fitted try and fit some new or uprated exhaust hanger bushes, because I did notice mine was wobbling a bit with the standard 60kmiles old ones

hehe, i too have recently bought a mk3 cupra exhaust ...£1.20 from ebay (+£20 p&p though) still worth the investment. (sorry graygray21 sniped u last seconds)

is yours 8v or 16v? 8v would need the reducer, right? 16v is straight fit.
mig's pics are prob the best ive seen, i know ill be using them as a guide.
there are debates about exhaust spray ...i duno. apparently it keeps the moisture inside the exhaust so it starts to rust internally, 50/50 i guess.

are all the cupra exhausts stainless steel back box n center box? ...would mine be?

grrrr I paid £70 for mine. It was from a 34k car though and came with the Cat and centre sections!!

As far as a reducer is concerned - I though the pipe from the cat is the same on the 8v gti and doesn't need a reducer?

If anyone can let me know that'll be great!!

Excellent man!! Thats perfect. Last thing... the exhaust mount. What did people use? I see people talking about the hanger being at a different angle? Some people using jubilee clips etc.

I spoke with Seat and a GSF type place earlier. Both of which said the rubbers look to be the same between the two cars? Is it actually the mounting point on the body that is in a different place? Mig how did you do yours?

Ive had to use jubilee clips on the 2 rear exhaust mounts. This is because the hangers on the backbox come off straight whereas the ones on the standard exhaust are bent. So the hangers are the same way as the mounts.

See what i mean in that photo. Altho i now have jubilee clips on that one, aint did the other one yet.

Dont know if anyone can suggest a way to turn the exhaust mounts of to get the hangers mounted in the mounts.

you'll need the vice versa mounts off the mk3

mk2 goes front to rear hole and mk3 is side to side

Its alright,it is jubilee clipped now while ive been waiting for an answer on the mk3 mounts. Someone said they are the other way, some people dont. Should of just asked you flapper in the first place.

Any part numbers for the mk3 vice versa mounts? they wont be to expensive will they? And will i need the mk3 mount that is before the rear axel as the backbox is just tie wrapped onto that one aswell as its front to back?

That is going to be a job for the next few weeks once i get the mounts.

I admit that I didn't fix the exhaust on myself, got a garage to do it instead. For all I know I think they re-used the same rubbers. They definitely didn't fit new ones. But like I said I noticed that the exhaust was wobbling a little, so could have done with some uprated rubbers. But it didn't knock anywhere anyway

Mine was the same, however others have been smaller on the 8v

Hmmmm. I can't imagine mine is smaller than this one otherwise it's going to be stupendously loud (already loud and raspy for a standard exhaust). Guess I'll have to measure it on Saturday morning or Sunday with some string or something!

Got it fitted last night. Bunged a mates brother £20 to shove it up on some ramps and do it for me as the angle of the rear beam was a problem with lowness.

Went straight on. All brackets and rubbers included! Dunno what I was worried about!

Now with a cable tie round the rear rubber stretching it out there is a 4/5mm clearance and the bumper hasnt even been cut!
