I have been looking into a second/replacement set of alloys for a while. Initially I wanted to try and get some of the 19" copper alloys but this has proven difficult. One quote was £2500+ which is ridiculous and I won't be paying that. My theory was, essentially to have a set of alloys with "summer" tyres (PS4's) and then keep the originals to get "winter" tyres.
I have found some alloys I like for ~£900 but I am curious whether the summer/winter tyre combo is actually necessary, or how much difference it will make. I live in the centre of Bristol and i/we don't commute to work. So whilst I will drive normal mileage in the winter, it's never 6/7am on a frosty day and it's not usually "essential travel". Those based in the Scottish Highlands may well have a different opinion to us city dwellers.
Is it worth having two sets of £500+ tyres (plus cost of alloys), or should I just stick PS4's on my current alloys and run them all year round?
