My local dealer has got the 275 in stock going to go take a look and have a go this week sometime.

Like you, I have been following the PH thread on this. I would also like to hear your thoughts - I'm interested in the prospect of one of these myself, however I will most likely give it a year for the depreciation to set in.

Haven't been over there yet
Have you had a chance to drive it yet Andrew?

I tested it this morning and am really impressed. It's so much more involved and eager than the Leon. Good steering feel in all modes, good brakes, nice short gearbox throw, sounds great and even though it was too cold to really push it had great turn in and neutral balance. Honestly the only downside for me is the interior - it's not bad but just not VAG standard.

For what I'm looking for it pretty much gives me everything. The ride is harsher in all modes but that's exactly what I was hoping for.

So I'm about 80% sold. If the dealer can strike a good deal then I'm in.

The harsh ride's a deal breaker for me, not with the goat tracks we now have to drive on.
I was quite surprised at the ride. I was expecting it to just be harder in the sport and N mode but even normal is probably the same as sport in the Cupra. All personal taste and requirements of course.

The main thing I've noticed in the first Euro/German/Spanish car I've had in decades, is the quality feel of it.
The Jap/Korean cars I've had were built quite well, but didn't feel anything special.

PCP prices are out and judging by the reactions on the i30N forum they're not very good. I do like the look of them and the reviews sound good but given the waiting time on a Cupra 300 I took the plunge and ordered one to replace the 280 and thought hey-ho I might look at the i30N when the 300 goes back, glad I didn't wait as it looks very expensive.

I had a message from the dealer saying figures were in and to call back to 'chat'. Looking at the figures people are being offered they are frankly ridiculous. I thought I was paying over the odds for my Cupra but there's no way I'll be going for the N at this time.

I'll still drop in for a cup of tea and to tease the salesman.

That reminds me of Clarkson wondering why a Hyundai was so much more expensive than a Kia. Hyundai said they were paying for the badge.
I see he's still as stupid as ever. Electro-mechanical steering isn't the same as steer by wire, and throttle blipping isn't double declutching. But, what's a bit of hyperbole between friends?

It'll be an interesting conversation, I'd love to here what they say.

To your original question: Cupra 290 to i30N Mad? = based only on a financial monthly cost perspective you can pay for a Cupra 300 1x23 £259 for 8k/year or go for a i30N at £2000 deposit + 47 months £371 for 9k/year.

I don't see how Hyundai are going to shift many based on those figures, so mad yes. You'd have to really want the i30 and not want any other of the competition if you're buying on pcp. Does anyone buy cash at full price anymore?

Had the chance to see one, but didn't drive it. Just being pick, didn't like the way the door handles are (too thin). The rest of the car, outside, looks nice. Inside, not a let down, but considering the price, would like a bit more bling.
Just to note, the same experience, looking, but didn't drive it either, the KIA Stinger. That looks great. Price starting at over 30K, but at least looks quite flashy. Personal taste, I love the looks of it.
Just had that hope for the Giulia, but the final product, didn't cause me that feeling.

Went to see the dealer today. Best they could offer still required a 4 figure deposit and over £400 a month which is far beyond anything I'm willing to pay to switch from the Cupra.

I can only hope that in time, after poor sales, Hyundai introduce some deposit contributions and the like.

They'll more likely just produce it in such small numbers it will naturally sell to the cash buyers/people with more money than sense (like Kia do with the pro_cee'd and cee'd GT) or quietly kill it off like they did with the Veloster.

I have just test drove a i30n performance and Cupra 300 dsg straight after each other

Both on motorway and a twisty b Road blast

I30n is a very good car, if I'd have tested just that I would have been happy.
But...
I had a far bigger smile when driving the Cupra

I30 interior was a bit plastic, I haven't driven a manual cupra so I don't know if the dsg box would have an effect on this,? the i30 has noticably a lot more torque stear

That's very interesting that you enjoyed the 300 more. It could just be that new car excitement as I do remember feeling the same when I first got the 290 so perhaps after 6 months with the i30 I would be ready for a change again.
