Have been thinking my cupra T has been feeling sluggish for a couple of weeks now,or could it be that am getting used to the extra grunt i have with this car,but yesterday had a little play against a 55 plate cupra FR TDI, have been on the road when this thing has passed before and i would say its definitely had a remap, but would it still leave me lagging behind in virtually all gears?

Just makes me wonder even more if there is something not quite right with mine,or would a remapped TDI do this?

Whatever think i need a remap:)

a remapped tdi would give an LCR problems never mind a cupra mate, i'd probably need to remap mines myself just to get the edge. still50 miles to the gallon as well, now that i could live with

The TDi, if remapped, could be somewhere around the 190-200bhp area with 300lb/ft of torque. That's enough to give a standard LCR a run for it's money, so a Cupra doesn't have a great chance to be honest.

A remapped Cupra would be better, but still only a 'match' for him as that torque figure is so good.

A remapped LCR on the other hand, would say goodbye quite comfortably, as it will have similar torque levels but 250+bhp.

I easily out run my mates 180bhp Audi TT, so as said above TDI wins lol. Saying that i had a go and stayed in front of a CTR and got left for dead my an older civic VTI strange lol!!

Yes it is remapped, it was rolling road'd at 212bhp by the owner before me.

Strange power really it will pull in forth from 40mph to just under 120mph with out it losing steam, by far its best gear!

As has been said, a remapped TDi will give you big problems in a standard 1.8T.

Get yourself a decent remap and you'll have no worries against that car. Torque is only one side of the story and although the TDis have it in abundance, it is relatively short lived. Get up to some decent speeds  and the oil burner won't get near you. Credit where its due though, the remapped 1.9 TDi's are very quick up to about 80 mph. After that a remapped 1.8T will leave it standing.

Upsolute from what i have been told.

Now i hate to spoil the above but at 80 mine is only getting into its stride granted i would stand a chance againt a remapped LC or LCR but it will be at much higher speeds that you start catching me lol!!

Oh i would like to add i dont drive everywhere million mph, its handy that my aunt has a WW2 american airfield next to her house that still has its runways lol!

lol!

I know all too well how quick they are mate. I've had a TDi and 3 Cupras. Based on my own experience the TDi is a lot easier to drive quickly. Masses of torque from almost no revs. The reason I mentioned the 80 mph figure is beacause when accelerating in my TDI the speedo needle's progress started to slow down noticeably at 80+ mph. In the 1.8T, you need to be doing 95+ before you hit the main power mass in 6th. This is where you will see the 1.8T pull away very obviously.

Most people will be very happy with a TDi thats quick around town and up to about 100 mph. If you want something quicker for trackdays or just general fun, the 1.8T is much more flexible and ultimately a good deal faster and more tuneable.

I'd still say that you need to set that figure higher, but i'm happy to agree to disagree lol!

I'll say one thing for the re map, the powers there from just under 2k and then right up into the red line. Even gave a new bme 335 a shoke, yes he did kill me but wasm't as easy as he clearly thought lol!

mine has a revo. Boy it now goes. I've raced a 225 off the mark and had a slight edge (but admit it could be down to the driver).

At higher speeds, he did have the legs. But at 130 (private road obviously!) he only had a car length.

With a re-map I can now pull under 2k and upto 4.6k really nicely.

She starts to hit the wall around 120 now, before it was around 80-90.

And the thing is, when I was racing, I was still probably getting 25-30mpg!!

The power range and rev limit on a TDi might be low, but the gearing is geared to be a good match for that, so it doesn't limit the way the car performs at higher speeds. A TDi will go just as fast as a petrol car, as the gearing is different to match the revs, power and torque available. You simply cannot say the diesel wont be as good at higher speeds.

I have my FR TDI remapped to almost 200bhp but the power band in the revs has got even shorter as I dont want to floor it until 3k revs (With an uprated clutch i would be happier flooring it from 2k revs) and then have to change at 4.5k revs. Saying that though, just easing down on the throttle and then flooring it, it does fairly shift! If racing someone from lights etc, it would mean being behind for a few seconds before edging past.

CordobaBrendy could give a decent comparison of both as he has a Stage 2 remapped 1.8T Cupra and has driven my remapped TDI.

Ah the good old petrol remap ver. Tdi remap conversation ... Hmmm

All I will say is a remap on either is worthy of considering.

However adding additional items, (even basic ones) or a replacement exhuast system's are just as benifical.... :)

Used the misses Bammer over the weekend, my god it felt so clogged... The Exhuast has to be replaced.....
