Cruise warning light on dash

Finally got my cruise fitted today not too bad a job, some bits very fiddly.

I have one slight problem in that when I enabled it in the ECU and turned it on on the stalk there is no light on the dash board. Test driven and all seems to work.

Is there meant to be a light on the dash? the car is an 03 Cupra, I was expecting a light in the cluster where all the other lights are, is this just a case of there being no bulb in the holder as there wasn't cruise fitted as standard.

Has any one else had this problem?

Cheers
Stu.

Not entirely the same but my Toledo doesnt have a light on the cluster (factory fit cruise) so I would be supprised if yours is meant to have one.

I don't think it is meant to have one, just looked in the manual and all lights in the cluster are already accounted for, so there is no space for one and no where else for there to be one.

There is no pilot light for cruise control, and in fact no space for one in the cluster. They all light up when you turn the key to power up the car (to show that the bulbs are all ok) and you should be able to see that the panel is fully populated.

Don't you think it is a bit strange that they fit a warning light to tell you that you have your lights on but not one to warn you that cruise is enabled.

One thing is, there is no legal requirement, although I don't know what if any idiot lights are required by law.

Then again the cruise control is so potentially hazardous that almost anything you do disengages it: touch brake or clutch and it will let go, push on the accelerator and you gain speed. The previous speed can be regained by a push on the "Reset" button, of course.

Lets go through what they do put on the panel and see if it makes any sense.

Seat-belts - legally required?
Alternator - without electricity the car is dead, if this comes on a fix is urgent.
Handbrake - Can tell you if the lever isn't fully released, doubles as brake fluid warning.
Oil - In other words, your engine will now expire. :drive2: At least you know why.
Tailgate - handy, certainly on the Toledo where the boot hinge is awkward and stiff.
EPC - warning, you will fail your next MOT. Glowplugs are here on the TDI.
Lights - warning you if you have left them on in daylight, I suppose.
ABS - important to know if it is not functioning, your driving style needs to take it into account.
Brake Pad Wear - saves scoring the disks, tells you why you can't stop :D
Engine diagnostics - something has gone wrong but you won't understand what it is. Drive immediately to a dealer, open your wallet and repeat after me "Help Yourself" . . . . .:headhurt:
Airbags - The explosive devices, built into your car to stop fat lazy Americans who won't do up their seatbelts from killing themselves too easily, have malfunctioned. Keep your hands where I can see them, drive slowly to the dealer and give him all your money again, or I'll set them off :givein:
Foglights - If you leave this on and there is no fog, people will think you have fog between the ears
ABS - may be legally required? You need to know if its failed.
Washer fluid - pretty pointless unless there is a good reserve
Immobiliser - Ah, so that's why it won't start.

You could make a case for a cruise control pilot light in the place of the washer fluid warning, and probably the foglight pilot as well.

Thanks for reciting the owners manual, some of them are quite funny.

I was merely pointing out the fact that my Bora has a warning light and the last two Golf's i've had have had warning lights (not really a warning light but an indication that it is enabled). I have owned/driven a lot of cars and none other than the Seat have had a lights on lamp. just seems funny to me how different manufacturers put a different emphasis on the silliest thing.

I guess i'll just have to not be so lazy and actually look at the switch on the stalk.

Thanks for pointing out that there isn't meant to be a light, atleast I now know there is nothing wrong.

But then I can't remember ever driving another car where the dashboard lights up all the time. When I first got my Leon it was very easy to forget the lights as it got dark or if I started out in a well lit carpark.
