...ummm...

OK, I can see that it's actually the bracket between the front>subframe mount that needs to be out simply to get clearance to remove/insert the sensor. I can also see that removing the large bolt throught the mount and the larger bolt underneath isn't enough. It looks to me like the bracket is partially held in place by the long threaded studs holding the starter to the transmission. Although they might possibly be locating dowels by that point. Still no sign of Heinz, giving up and buying a new one.

I'd be eternally grateful if someone can tell me exactly how I get that bracket off...

Well i had the crank sensor fitted to mine over the weekend. Got a local mechanic to do, £20.

Cool! £20's a steal!

Procedure in brief (AGG)
  • battery off
  • car in air
  • oil out, then filter off
  • support engine on gearbox flange
  • loosen all engine mounts, remove front
  • disconnect pipe from bracket above.
  • remove through bolts from starter>transmission>bracket
  • remove front engine mount bracket
  • replace crank sensor
  • replacement is reversal of removal ^_^ remembering to torque up things you shifted...
  • don't forget new oil and filter...

I note also that the crank sensor can be tested without needing access as the multiplug you need access to is lurking up top somewhere... in teh general region of the dizzy.
