Couldn't get nylon bush into console...surely it's not hard?

I replaced mine with another motor factor version (voided) and the nylon casing seemed too big to fit into the console so I got the file out and took some plastic off until it would sit flush so I could hammer it in.

Does anyone know if the plastic ones should fit into the console without much fuss or are they meant to be a pain?

As a result it's moving due to me taking some off and now has to be replaced again as it's causing movement. Would do the cupra bushes but can't be bothered to do both sides + the hassle of getting them in there.

Cheers

Yes they are tight, thats the point of an interference fit, however you have to make sure the console is sportless before tring to push it in. Also hammering is not the way to do it. It should be pulled in with a plate and bolt. Hammering it will damage the bush and the console.

Also the regular voided bushes have been deleted by SEAT now and you get the more solid Leon type bush to fit n there, much better and less than £10.

Right, looks like i'll be buying the £80 tool then, thanks.

Will that make installation easy? Even for cupra bushes? Either that or there's new consoles with a bush for £78 online.

Thanks

Yeah I was going to do that but have an MOT soon and didn't think i could get the spacers made up in time. Though £80 for a tool i'll use once is a bit steep. :)

Dealer is cheaper than that I think.

Thanks, I just emailed to get a quote from someone on ebay who makes spacers to size. I'll probably go the cupra bush route if the price isn't too high for the tool to be made up. I'll check Seat for the price of a new console and the included bush tomorrow too.

Just the thought of aluminiumm sliding into an aluminium housing makes me cringe. Suppose it needs to be lubed a lot though. Then if I get both sides done i'll put the tool up on here as a doubt the cupra bushes will break too easily.

Cheers for the replies. :D

Its not really, ive seen so many bodge ups and bushes not fitted right you wouldnt believe.

Not lined up right, not pushed in far enough, cracked bushes and damaged consoles.

did mine about 6 months ago and tried the bolt and spacer on one side then took the console off and pressed it in using a vice on the other. a lot easier doing it in a vice!

you will have to get the tracking reset if you take the console off but you should to it anyway after fitting new bushes

you only have to remove 4 more bolts and the arb mount to take the console off - takes about ten mins!

just my 2p worth!

The fastest way i've ever been able to do them is by dropping the subframe. But then I usually did the whole lot inc wishbone bushes etc, got them down to about 45 mins with pre prepped consoles and wishbones.

1.2 and 1.4 engines are harder as the exhaust runs under the subframe and the sump gets int he way of the o/s wishbone bolt so either the frame has to come down or the engine has to go up.

Used to get loads go for the £250 deal at Unit18, was bread and butter work at one point. So much better afterwards.

Now i'd probably fit the latter subframe and do away with them altogether...lol
